Hi there,
I'm moving to JVT on Thurs and am currently scanning Dubizzle for plants and bits for the huge garden. I wanted to know if anyone had moved a garden or could put me in touch with a gardener who could help me dig up some plants from someone else's garden and also remove their gravel (they're selling it - am not a crook!). Is it even worth doing this? Apparently there are three tonnes of gravel that would cost me AED2,000 minimum and I can get it for AED500 plus whatever am charged to collect it and move it. Any advice would be really appreciated please! THanks so much!

This is all such good news! A Rancher: I was thinking it was all getting rather complicated with scooping up secondhand gravel! If you have that number it would be great please! Nomad - yes am thinking to avoid those trees too and reading about them on here and your input has only confirmed this thought! And one day I'm going to tell me 'little helper' just exactly what kind of help he's been ;o) Eli 1979 - that would be amazing if we could have your gravel please - thank you very much! Thanks a lot everyone! edited by Pav on 08/02/2012

Any advice would be really appreciated please! THanks so much! We were quoted 1000aed for a truck load of gravel by a gardener. That includes delivery and application. If you pay someone 500aed just for the gravel, you'll have to pay extra for someone to collect, deliver and apread it out. It's a lot of work. I'll try and find the number of the gardener.

Whatever you do don't be tempted to plant any Damas Trees. They are really cheap and grow unbelieveably fast,BUT....have terrible roots systems. Recently a friend had to replace thier entire underground plumbing systems as the roots had got into all the piping. The grass dies under them, in fact nothing will grow in the immediate area. Dont pay extra for more mature plants/shrubs as everything grows like spit in DXB. Happy gardening with your "little helper".

Pav, I don't have 3 tons of gravel but I am sure there are at least 20 bags left. You are welcome to pick it up for free if you want it. It is light beige colour. @Good morning :))))) -wrestling it's not a strong enough word to describe the situation right now *Inserts that red faced angry smiley*

Yes - I was actually on Al Quoz this afternoon and thinking perhaps I should go and talk to them direct... I'm going to try and do some stuff myself but I have a small son who keeps me rather occupied these days and loves to help me in his own way!

Most of the landscaping companies will pick up, move and re-establish gardens for a fee. Perhaps ask the people selling who initially installed their garden. Get quotes and price this against starting again. If you enjoy gardening, it's much cheaper to get everything at the plant souk and DIY.
