Hi there
We are planning to buy a flat in the UK (buy to let) and would prefer to do as much as possible from here. We plan to contact agents and give them our requirements to start looking for a place and then go in the summer hopefully to view and make an offer. I just wanted some help on two things, firstly for those of you who have done it from here, how much can yopu do from here and at what stage would you need to go the UK to finalise/sign etc and secondly did you get a mortgage from Dubai or UK and could you recommend someone I could contact? Can i just contact banks by email and apply for a mortgage with a UK bank online or do i need to be there?
TIA for your help

Our UK mortgage was handled by Helen at Lloyds TSB opposite Safa Park. Very professional and efficient. We walked in without an appointment. We also dealt with Halifax over the telephone and found their offshore mortgage department to be really helpful. They sent out all our paperwork via courier after we had approved everything via email.

We recently used a company called IP Global to buy a buy-to-let property in London. They have an office in Dubai and helped us to pick the property, arrange the mortgage, deal with solicitors and rent out the property without actually having to leave the UAE. They also work with Liquid Expat Mortgages (I think), mentioned in a previous post. We're happy, so definitely worth a try.

We bought from here without going at all. We knew the property, and had somebody just go in and have a quick look at it, but otherwise, our solicitor sorted it all out for us. Once it was all done we had Fedex pick up the keys from the realtors place. If you need a good solictor for the conveyancing (is that what it is all called??), I can recommend ours.
