my gynae wants to induce labour early ( week before scheduled date). this is my first pregnancy can anybody share their experience. i wanted to have normal delievery but due to little decrease of amniotic fluid she wants to induce labour. i am scheduled on 19 april now and getting anxious.

Hi manubhadauria, There is quite a bit of research to say that the diagnosis of low amniotic fluid is often wrong and not a cause for induction. Hello. I was induced 10 days early as I had gestational diabetes but my baby was small. I had no problems with the induction, I did end up having an epidural, but that was because LO was lying against my back (I had a vaginal delivery). I think the thing it to not get too stressed about it - maybe, the more you stress, the worse the experience. I guess though, that I trust what the dr says is best, as they do this all the time. Be aware though, that when you're induced, you'll probably have more needles and drips!

I was induced. Are you still with dr nirmala? It was absolutely fine. Had epidural too though so again was quite hapy having a snooze, wtching tv etc while the baby was coming. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting and felt the whole thing was monitored well and I had say as to what happened and when. HTH and good luck xxx nope i have changed the doc due to some reasons. I am with Dr Andrea right now who is also highly recommended. @lilly34: i do not have blood pressure but actually due to almost nill level of vit d i am facing some problems.

( or i am still confused):\: @lilli34 i am thinking the same thing about c-section even before your reply. actually my pains have started 18 days back but they are too less and has not increased after so many days. CTG was completely normal. as for my heartbeat its too much and maybe doctor wants to induce as i have gained too much weight, so she'll do c-section later. @dubaicat : now that's a thought . i'll just keep on dreaming about bugaboo :) @laydeelay and danlou: you are correct i should have trust on my doctor speciallly in the last stage of pregnancy. @mich25: my baby is so far normal in size only i am huge! maybe because my heartrate is always on a very higher side doc wants to induce. With the information you added about your own health I would now recomend to still get a second opinion but to consider that an earlier delivery might be better after all. In light of your own health (weight, heart rate) it makes it totally different from the situation I was in, as I had an uneventfull pregnancy up until my due date, and no unusual weight gain or heart rate or blood presure...

i am 33 + 3 and my doctor wants to induce at 38 weeks due to placenta calcification- i hadnt really thought about whether i minded being induced or not- i have had a really tough pregnancy with one thing or another so for me knowing my little boy is healthy sooner rather that later i dont mind. will be keeping an eye on this thread though good luck .

i would get a second opinion. being induced increases the chances of you might needing interventions or even a c-section. I was frightened into getting induced with my first baby for similar reasons they are giving you, and in hindsight it was not necessary and didn't work, the contractions never came after the drugs and I ended up giving birth 4 days later. And I to this day suspect that they were just counting on getting me frightened enough to want a c-section. I also learned that some decrease of amniotic fluid is normal at the end of the pregnancy,, what is important is how the baby is doing. Did it show any sign of being distressed during your CTG? BUT, as I am not a doctor and my pregnancy is not yours, I would recomend to get a second opinion, maybe even at a different hospital and if they also give you a convincing reason for induction I would go for it.

DS was induced due to pre-eclampsia. I'm probably not the best person to give you advice as I had an epidural, so I spent most of my labour relaxing in bed chatting to my doula :), but even before I had the epidural it was OK and DS was born naturally (well, with the help of suction and a pair of scissors). I think the best thing to do is focus on getting baby out safely and making sure you're safe, and that's all. I got far too worked up about what I did and didn't want, to the point where it ended up having a totally negative impact on me, so just remember that keeping you and baby safe is the ONLY important thing on the day. Or, you could focus on what colour Bugaboo you're getting and working out on what else you can spend the money you saved buying it in the Netherlands! :D :D

Having an induction isn't so bad. My first was induced as she was going too be huge and she popped out at 7lb 13 at 39+6 and like you I am down for an induction on the 19th due to my baby being a fair size and my due date is today. You will have some control over the birth. There is time between each stage, you control your pain relief and although I needed the drip last time my labour once they broke my waters lasted 3 hrs 20 mins and I was up and about in a few hours and left the hospital the same day. I know many will say they had an awful experience but drs don't tend to induce for no reason and you still have a few days to give birth naturally. Having a healthy baby is the most important thing and I can't wait to meet my new lO hopefully on the 19th if not before. Good luck!!!

I agree with Dan Lou..you need to trust your doctor. I am 31 weeks along, and my doctor is inducing labour 1.5weeks before my initial due date.. I have gestational diabetes, and although I have been taking care of my diet, my baby is a growing big. I completely trust my doctor, and knows she has the best intention. And she is well aware that I want a normal delivery!

I think the best thing to do is trust your doctor, if she is concerned about amniotic fluid then I would be listening to her expertise. I'you are nervous, but I wouldn't expect any different for a first delivery, any delivery really, it's a nerve wracking time! Whilst I've heard negative stories of inductions, I had a planned induction for my 2nd pregnancy and it was very good, much better than the 1st delivery! The thing about inductions is that it allows for a calm and controlled environment rather than waiting for any nasty surprises, I hope that makes sense and can reassure you a little bit. I'm sure there will be more positive stories for you.
