Want to buy a BBQ stand but debating between the two options. The gas bbq sets are quite expensive and not sure if its worth the investment. Feedback please? Thank you

We have a Weber Gas Grill. Guests have often commented on how it tastes as good as charcoal. I would not be able to cope with a charcoal grill, we BBQ about 80% of our meals, I do roast beef, teriyaki salmon, pizza anything really on it. I even baked some cakes on it recently when our oven broke (although they were a little smokey!). I'd say if you are going to use it frequently then gas is the way to go but if you just intend to BBQ on it occasionally and stick to basics like burgers and steaks it's probably not worth the investment.

We had a charcoal BBQ for ages, and recently switched to a gas BBQ and couldn't be happier. I do love the nice, smoky quality you get from a charcoal BBQ, but the ease of using a gas BBQ just can't be beat. We never used to BBQ after work because it was too much of a hassle, but that's not the case at all with the gas version. We even pop sausages on in the morning sometimes! You can get stuff like mesquite wood chips to put in your gas grill to help with the smoky quality of a charcoal BBQ. I haven't actually tried anything like that yet though, so can't say as to how well they work.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned in the first post that we do have a charcoal bbq right now and as you rightly said its taken a while to get the hang of temperature etc to get the meat right. DH is the one who does the BBQ though. We need a bigger one as the kids are growing and we often have friends over, so thinking over which one to invest in.

I prefer the authentic BBQ taste of a charcoal BBQ. You will however have to really learn how to use it. It is a lot harder to contol the heat, so you might end up with burned meat in the beginning. But after you gained some experience, no gas BBQed meat will ever taste as goos as a coal BBQed meat.
