Good Morning Everyone
There is a big possibility that we may be moving to New Zealand.... if this is the case, we will want to take our two dogs with us... can anyone offer any advice or recommend someone to contact in regards to this so I at least can find out the information and the costs beforehand...
any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks dubai1990. The whole thing is quite daunting. What did you have the blood drawn for? we have about three moves or so till our move but will be away for a few weeks in the middle of that. I just googled your friends company but didn't find anything, can you please post contact details? Thank you. Hi Suzysun... the blood draw is for the rabies testing... that is the first thing you have to do as they cannot travel until 3 mths after having it done. Yes, we have just moved and will be moving again in 2 weeks around dubai.... let's just say it is not the easiest thing to do.... anyway, an email address for nikki is expatpets at hotmail dot com.... just say that louise has given you her email... she has just recently set up a page on fb.... but, regardless of whether you use her or not, she will be able to tell you about all the procedures and put your mind at ease about it all... just let me know if you have any problems or need more advice.... I will hopefully be confirming their quarantine space in christchurch soon eeekkkk.....

Hi Suzysun We are using a company called Expat Pets... we know the owner.... however, we did get a few quotes... DKC never got back to me and the prices were pretty much the same.... for two medium size dogs, the price works out at about AED 30,000.....(more than half of that are the flights alone!) Our friend does also offer the service whereby they just advise you on what you need to do and you do it yourself... i.e. vet visits and costs and booking their flights... we have decided to do the vet visits as we do not really need a person to take them so there are a number of packages.. We have already done the blood draw and have been advised that it is 3 months after they have had that and then 10 days in quarantine when over there.... It is expensive but we could never imagine leaving them here... they are part of our family.... Good luck with your decision :-)

ange74, do you have contact details for 'Linda' please? what is her company/website? I'm about to start shopping around for relocation for me dog. Have no idea of the cost yet but I suspect it will be eye-watering!! Also, does anybody know if there is a guide somewhere to doing it myself? (as mentioned below by miffmac). Thanks in advance. Sms 0507242588 - she will call you back :-)

Guys, I posted here a few weeks ago looking for someone to help me relocate my dogs back to the UK. I was planning to use DKC, until their quote nearly made me faint. After feedback Im using a lady called Linda, who's quote is nearly 40% cheaper than DKC. If your cash conscious like myself, I would use Linda. Get a quote from both of them and you will see. I don't know why DKC charge so much more as the service is the same (except the tapeworm) which you can get from your own vet for 150dhs instead of double the price from DKC. Im not disrespecting anybody or company but Im sure the cash is better in my pocket than anyone else.

Ask from Tim at the Dubai Kennel's and Cattery. They are very professional and send dogs everyday to NZ and Australia!

Hi Kiwi No problem. It's just that I got this I formation from http://www.enz.org/moving-pets-to-new-zealand.html Which did suggest that the rabies blood test needed to be 6 months old for the animal only to spend 10 days in quarantine. Also my vet in the uk told us this. More than happy to take on board your update :). Tks

Thank you for the info update Kiwi :-) Dear Miffmac, I'm afraid you are wrong with reference to sending a dog to New Zealand. A couple of years ago the regulations changed, the rabies blood test is now valid from 3 months to 2 years and the quarantine in New Zealand is now only 10 days. So the basics: the pet must be microchipped prior to the rabies vaccination being given and if it is the first vaccination then you need to wait for a month before the blood test is done. The minimum wait then is 3 months before the pet can travel and the maximum is 2 years.

Hi. You can 'do it yourself' which involves quite a bit of running around, especially in the last two weeks, before they leave. But it can done if u have the time. Otherwise contact one of the pet relocation places here and they will do it all for you, at a cost! A note: If your dogs haven't had the rabies blood test, you should do it ASAP, as this test needs to b 6 months old otherwise they will need to go I to quarantine once they arrive in NZ for the 6 months, or what ever time remains of the 6 months. (Same test dogs needed to enter uk prior to 1/1/12) Your vet is the best person to ask, as to what exactly needs to b done. I am shipping my son's dog to NZ later this year so have done quite a bit if research about this.
