Many schools have already released their calenders for the academic year 2013-14 and i have not seen any finishing as late as the 2nd week of July. Each year there are rumours about this however it has not happened yet. These calendars will be provisional though and still subject to KHDA approval.

we ( federal higher education ) had a meeting and were given our next year academic calendar. We were informed that schools would run on a 3 terms system and have longer breaks between the terms finishing the year 2 weeks later than now. however we would carry on a 2 term system finishing the 3rd week of June.

This is what they do in Germany and personally, I think it is a great idea. I have also noticed that expats often take their children out of school when it is convenient for them and not according to school vacations.

Last week we ( ministry of higher education ) received the information that for the academic year 2013. -2014 schools will have longer breaks during the year and will finish 2 nd week of July. I will try to find more about it through a KHDA source I was going to say this has been talked about for years on and off.

Again, it's April First. Why steal everyone's old boring jokes. This is the fun in the day. It's harmless. Enjoy a chuckle every now and then! If its a simple case of "gotcha" and you had been tricked I am very sorry for having fun and tricking you. I'm pretty sure that's what today was about. No one was killed or hurt. Seriously have fun! I had kids in our neighborhood believing this and when they figured it out they were so relieved and thought it was the best joke of the day. Life doesn't not need to be so darn serious...gosh!

Frankly speaking coming from Canada where you get xmas holidays of 2 weeks, March Break of 1 week and thats it, I find the number of school holidays here unbelievable. Seems they're never in school. I welcome the 2 additional weeks.

Another blow to the expat community! Seems as though us expats take our kids out of school far to often. KHDA has noticed a trend and will extend school days ( not hours) and add two weeks to the school year! :( Tried to post the link. Look at KHDA website.
