I went to close an account recently, took out the little bit of money that was in there, and they said I could not close it without my husband's signature. No loans, cards, etc. Its a JTS account. Account still technically open. Frustrating.
Great....thanks for the info Sakhifa!
You're welcome :) It is true that it can be a huge pain to close it if there are things linked to the account, but otherwise, it's easy enough.
Yes (I assume the banks have a similar policy). As long as you don't have anything linked to it (automatic debits, payments, cc, etc.), or haven't had anything linked to it in more than 30-90 days, then it can be an immediate closure.
If you have no credit cards or loans, then it will be "easy" to close it. I wouldn't leave it open, then you have probably would have to maintain a minimum balance.
Oh ok, so is it literally a case of going to the bank and asking to close the account do you know?

Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to close your bank account when leaving the country?
I have no credit cards or loans and I don't pay any monthly fee's to have my account so it will literally just be left open with no money in it....is this ok or is it required to close the bank account before leaving?
I have heard that closing a bank account is more hassle than it is worth hence why I am asking!
TIA
