I wonder at which age does it become inappropriate to take boys to ladies only things like swimming or popping into a salon for quick threading ( the ones that don't say; no children )
My three year old gets funny looks in ladies loos now but I know for example ; wild wadi permits boys 8 and under in ladies sessions .

I take my 11 year old son into the ladies with me if my DH or older son isn't around...simply because the disabled toilets are "mostly" located either within the ladies or the gents ( of course when they are independent we go there ). I've never noticed any dirty looks as such, but it's blatantly obvious why I have to do it, and if I were to get dirty looks it wouldn't bother me, there's no way I'm sending him into the gents toilets unaccompanied. ETA: that article is the exact reason why I do it.... edited by coco pops on 05/05/2013

Mine eight year old insists on going to the men's but I would vastly prefer to still bring him into the ladies with me. I've had some dirty looks over the years, but I get them for virtually everything and if I worried about what people thought, I'd never go out!

Let a 3 year old into a mens toilet unsupervised anywhere in the world, No way, no way!!!!! Not on your nellie. Up to about 9 or 10 and then i would stand outside the mens with strict instructions to scream and run if approached. Lolacat - my DS is turning 9 soon and he has started to question me when it comes to the toilet. When he insists that he's going to the Mens Loo, I stand outside like a stalker and scream out his name at least 5 times ti make sure he answers. I am completely paranoid!!!! http://www.7daysindubai.com/Cleaner-accused-toilet-attack-year-old-boy/story-18890400-detail/story.html

"Funny looks"? Yup; I give them. I give them for children who bang on my door while I'm trying to attempt to do my business, for children that stick their HANDS under my door when I am doing the same, for children that are seemingly unattended wandering around ladies' public restrooms while their mothers are attending to themselves and the children seem ... unrestrained, and for any child who isn't behaving in a manner appropriate to a private bathroom situation. Apart from that? I say: it's absolutely within mothers' rights to supervise/oversee their children, of either ***, up to a certain age because - let's face it - little kids shouldn't be wandering into bathrooms without being looked after properly, but honestly ... some people really do need to teach their LOs bathroom etiquette if they are going to enjoy the facilities on offer. Not attacking anyone here, promise, but I have been stunned at various behaviour of little idiots who think that a bathroom is a Mini Monsters. :(

My son also got some funny looks before as he is quite tall for his age. Its sad they dont get to act their age because they are tall. He is 11 now and goes to the mens toilet.

I would just give a funny look back. I kept my boys with me as long a possible. You never know who is in there. When, finally, I had to let them go alone, around 9 or 10, I too, stood outside the men's loo having given a strict time limit for them to do what they had to and get out and instructions should anyone even look sideways at them. You can never be too careful with your children - that's a fact!

I don't see little Qatari boys in the ladies ever so wondering if its a particular cultural thing.

I agree with Lola, I would never let my little one go to the toilet alone before age 9 and then I would wait at the door to the mens loos til he came out. My eldest was around that age, and my youngest is 6.5 and still comes with me, so far no funny looks at all. lol 'Not on your Nellie', haven't heard that for a while. edited by Alismum on 06/04/2013

We are in Qatar and its happened more than once but I don't like to send him into the men's unaccompanied . Not all places have a disabled loo or baby area . Facilities are much poorer than DXB generally. That's terrible! My three year old needs help doing his shorts back up at home, no way he is ready for solo bathroom visits when out!

Who on earth gives a three year old funny looks for being in the ladies? He's still a baby! I hope you give funny looks right back. I still take my son in ladies loos sometimes, if i'm not comfortable with the men's, and he's almost 9..would take him to the hairdresser with me if I had no-one to look after him but I don't do salons so can't say..
