So one final clarification - for the end of service gratuity, I looked up the labor law and you are correct, it states any employee who has completed one year or more in continuous service, you get 21 days for the 1st year and then "fractions of year payable pro rata" -- so if I worked for 1 year and a half, then I would get 21 days for the first year and then the fraction (ie. 10.5 days) for the 6 months. Is there ANY way the employer can get around this -- any exclusions to this rule for an unlimited contract in a freezone? Gratuity is part of the labor law so they have to pay it The only way they can get around not paying it is due to gross misconduct on your behalf Which FZ are you in?

1. Are you entitled to end of service gratuity? Yes. You are entitled to the fraction of the year as well. 2. Are you entitled to compensation for the unused portion of remaining vacation days? Your vacation days would be recalculated according to the portion of the year worked and if unused, you should be paid for them. 3. Most importantly, are you entitled to salary compensation for the remaining 6 months of the contract? No because it's an unlimited so no compensation due edited by derien on 08/04/2013

If one was hired under an unlimited contract in a Dubai freezone, and the employee passes one year, then the company decides to let the employee go after 6 months (not reaching a 2nd year mark), what are the employee's rights? (by let go, I mean not termination for disciplinary issue, rather the company has made the decision based on company financial reasons) 1. Are you entitled to end of service gratuity? 2. Are you entitled to compensation for the unused portion of remaining vacation days? 3. Most importantly, are you entitled to salary compensation for the remaining 6 months of the contract? Any advice much appreciated! edited by bennet12 on 08/04/2013 Gratuity after 1 year yes Dont Know sorry Nope a company will give you compensation at their own discretion and i have only ever seen one company pay this to a candidate( In 7 yrs)
