Hi ladies,

after going through Aldo's like they are disposable I am looking for a better quality long lasting work shoe for DH. Also a nice pair of casual moccasin type shoes, he has mentioned a brand like "ted" or something in the past which are well known but I can't remember it. Any suggestions for either shoe what brand I should look into?

For the work shoe, something sort of sporty and sleek for everyday wear in the office, not clunky, not pointy. Any suggestions? TIA!

RM Williams for my DH as well, both pairs well over 5 years old and look as good as new. Audrey, where did you get them re-soled?

My dh wears only RM Williams but not sure if they're available here. He's been wearing them for 3 years or more most days (has 2 pairs) and we got them re-soled recently and now looking good as ever!

As for good work shoes though (not moccasins, but still) DH buys Church's. There's a shop in MOE which sells them. They aren't cheap, but they last and last and last. Also very comfy too, I'm told. :) I tried to google Church shoes in Dubai, but nothing comes up (exept this thread, lol). Does anyone know if they are sold anywhere here? Or Crocket&Jones or similar shoes. DH is really struggling to find decent work shies here. Unfortunately that means I'm struggling with him, so any help would be highly appreciated.

Well, DH does have a pipe dream of living on a ranch someday, so maybe we'll start with the boots...

Driver's shoes seem to be the thing this season. Have you looked in the shoe souk in Dubai Mall? Shoes for days! Have you checked Cole Haan? My DH likes their shoes for both casual and work. However...he wears cowboy boots 99% of the time. Hahaha! I can NOT see my stuffy Lebanese DH in cowboy boots! I never imagined my DH wearing cowboy boots, but he has a pair that are so super comfy, he just loves them.......so out of character for him.

Thanks ladies, lots of ideas. Thanks on the heads up for Tod's, if I am paying that much for a shoe I am hoping it would last longer than a few months!!!

I have to say if he wants a long lasting shoe not too clunky then look at British traditional shoe makers. Church's as mentioned are a great solid starting point and probably one of the most popular brands. My Grandads on both sides of my family, one in Yorkshire and one in Cape Town wore Church's so their reputation is longstanding and worldwide! Although I personally prefer Crockett and Jones which to me have a more modern look. For the best look leather soles are very sleek and not clunky (the clunkiness is normally due to thick rubber soles). Northampton shoes like Church's do, as LadyBee stated, last and last. They are real shoes from traditional shoemakers as opposed to fashion shoes and there is a good reason why British gentleman shoe manufacturing is one of the few remaining industries in the UK!

Let me add Ecco's (as mentioned by someone else). My husband had diabetes and shoes are an important purchase. My husband wears Ecco's all the time and they are comfortable and long wearing. He loves them for comfort. Not always a lot of great "selection" but they are worth the money. We also use their shoe creams and products to maintain.

Thanks for some ideas ladies, - where can "Mandoos" be found, Anon? - Tod's! That's what they are called. The moccasins brand he was talking about. Thnks Ruth - He tried both Clarks and Eccos and he thinks they are too clunky for what he is looking for, although he admits they are very comfy - Will look into Massimo Dutti and Dune, never thought of Dune, always assumed it was all blingy ladies shoes! Re the Tods ... Just be careful you buy ones that aren't too soft on the sole/heel. A lot of their moccies are sold as 'driving shoes' and they really shouldn't be worn day in/day out because they are too flimsy. I mean, they're great shoes, but DH trashed his within months. Oh, also, if your man has a wide foot, the edges of the nice soft leather rub against the ground so it sort of spoils the nice look of them when they get rubbed so regularly. As for good work shoes though (not moccasins, but still) DH buys Church's. There's a shop in MOE which sells them. They aren't cheap, but they last and last and last. Also very comfy too, I'm told. :)

[b'>Work Shoes[/b'> For work shoes DH always goes to Crockett and Jones. He's had shoes from them for about 10 years. His main ones have been resoled by them a few times. He likes classic oxfords but also has a few pairs of loafers from there. He's a bit of a traditionalist (I use other less pleasant words to describe his fashion trends) and will only wear oxfords with a suit, loafers are for trousers/chinos (apparently). I don't know if anywhere out here sells them but he just calls the shop in London gives his name and what he wants and they send us a pair that fit in his words 'like slippers'. They have his fit on file and always know which ones will be comfortable. Even though we only go in there every few years they still recognise him when we do pop in and greet him by name, their customer service is fantastic. Crockett and Jones are made in the UK in Northampton the heart of British shoemaking. They still use traditional shoemaking techniques which DH loves. Barker's, Church's, Loakes, Cheaney (owned by Church's), Trickers, John Lobb, Edward Green, New & Lingwood and Alfred Sargent are other brands to consider. [b'>Casual Shoes[/b'> For casual shoes DH buys Quoddy or Sebago, he's a bit preppy and a fan of the boat shoe look. Tod's do some moccs I think, it's the only brand I can think of similar to Ted's. They are however best known for their 'driving' shoes. But I buy his casual shoes (I'm allowed) and I prefer Quoddy for casual wear (they're still hand sewn in Maine).
