I feel sad for innocent people being targeted anywhere in the world. Sadly it is so common now that it is not practically possible for me to be glued to the tv all the time to get updates on all of them. I would not choose to give importance to one over the other since innocent lives are important regardless of the status of their country - highly developed or under developed. War also has certain rules to follow and ideally no innocent civilians should be killed. I don't know what the world is heading towards. Lets all pray for the innocent souls who have lost their lives to such incidents - whether it be in the most powerful country in the world or one which is not so powerful. I have read about these so called wars in detail so I know my facts about how many innocent people (including a large number of children) have lost their lives in these.

I honestly feel men are just not upto the job - they think of and first respond with violence in any situation. Women and children suffer the consequences of men being too trigger happy. I can confidently say MOST violent crime and criminal acts and war are those started, carried on and ended by men. I read a book many years ago, a novel set in Scotland against the background of WW1....a child drowns, he is the only son of a widow, who had been born prematurely.... an onlooker remarks that she had raised him against all the odds, that "she had cobbled together his every breath" ,,,and adds "G@d must be a man, no woman would tolerate such a waste" Amen to that.

And it looks as though the bombers were two young brothers.....................another poor mother somewhere. I hope there is a special version of H@ll for those who so pervert impressionable immature minds.

One suspect dead, looks like the other is hiding out in a town outside Boston which is on lock down. Believed to be Chechyn. One police officer died in the shootout.

One of the suspects has been killed, along with a police officer and they are trying to find the other suspect in a suburb of Boston. edited by TOLB on 19/04/2013

Whats the world coming to - just regular people running a marathon. How unhappy, dangerous and sick you'd have to be to deliberately target the innocent! I dont want the thread to digress but little children are indeed, orphaned in warzones all the time, often with devastating wounds themselves, and no rehabilitation, steps to recovery or government support whatsoever, no funds or memorials, no life ahead that is conceivably normal. They get on with it, its not on CNN live, but is a fact of some childs life that was also deliberately changed by someone somewhere agreeing to allow the bombs to drop. Uncalled for violence in any situation is a complete misery, waste of lives, money and efforts to recover, and if the idea (for the violent act) was to cause some specific change then that too hasnt been successful in any permanent form or for the better. :( Every innocent life lost is one too many. But the victims of this attack will be named and honoured and remembered. Victims in war torn countries are considered collateral damage, forgotten.. I wish all the violence would end. Everywhere. But it seems hatred and need for war is so deeply ingrained in people's system. And does naming and honoring and remembering victims change very much? No. They are gone, just as much as victims of war are gone. I too wish all senseless violence would end. It is just so hard for me to understand the mentality of anyone who stands with a gun and pulls the trigger, or detonates that bomb, or can cause any other human or creature such suffering. It is just beyond me.

Yes, I also feel that over the years with conflicts all over the world, we have become desensitised to people being killed or badly injured in these countless places of unrest as we hear it on the news every day. When something happens closer to home we are outraged and understandably so, before anyone has a go!! Sad that humans have been fighting each other since the dawn of mankind.

Such comments sounds inapprpriate but i can realize where they are coming from. Entire families are killed, wedding parties are bombed, children are blown to pieces and the only reaction they ge is "tsk tsk, that is what war is like". So maybe people who have lost close ones that way may feel bitter.

Am absolutely appalled by this tragedy. One thing that I find quite distasteful however, is comments I am reading on FB of people saying "bombs go off everyday in Iraq / Afghanistan, why the big deal". You cannot compare a premeditated terrorist attack to a war zone! You also have to look at the journalistic aspect that something like this will generate far more awareness in the media than the situation in Syria etc due to the relevance to the readership. There is no need to downplay one tragedy against another, or diminish its importance due to other crazy things going on. I feel so sad for the runners. I agree to a point but innocent people are killed in warzones too. Any death caused by violence against innocents is awful, whether in a war zone or a planned attack. My heart goes out to all victims of these atrocities no matter where they are.

This seems very homegrown, but that's just my opinion. A bomb in a trash can seems somewhat small for terrorism. Sadly this reminded me of the Salt Lake City Olympics or Timothy mcveigh (although his was bigger). I could be way off though. edited by dogcatcher on 16/04/2013 The bombs were quite sophisticated, though, and caused massive injuries... I don't believe this will start a war but it will definitely make people feel less safe and more pro-war...

A child killed what is the world coming too :-( The IRA let one off in a bin in Warrington UK if my memory serves me correctly edited by sarahlou123 on 16/04/2013

My first thought was one of disbelief My second thought was one of sadness My third thought was " God don't let this be the work of a rogue terrorist from Syria, Egypt, etc etc" My forth thought was....... if 3 is true, please don't let this be the prelude to a war.

I watched in disbelief but then watched strangers come to one another help and geniunly care. There are awful people, but I believe the good out weigh the bad. We only hear about the evil as that's news worthy. My thoughts are with the runners, families and friends. People coming together is a beautiful thing, happens often in the wake of a tragedy, but it doesn't even begin to make up for the horrors of the tragedy. My heart is heavy today. My home country is increasingly a less safe place to live. I just can't understand why people do these things.
