Hi ladies,
My LO is starting at Safa school and I can't seem to fully access their Facebook page, I can see photos, but that is it, can anyone post a link?
Any other information about the school would be great too, such as, the support system in the school, the overall teaching quality, extra curricular activities. Safa was not my first choice school and like others have said, the outside of the building put me off, but when I went on the tour, I loved it, really does have a great British feel to it. So far, all my interactions with the staff have been good, starting from the lady at reception (makes a change, quite a few schools I have visited, the reception staff are so unfriendly), but the lady at reception is so lovely here.
Also, having achieved a "good" rating with the KHDA, does anyone have a heads up on whether there is going to be a fee increase.
TIA :-)
Hi ladies, thanks again for your replies, you have made me feel at ease with our decision to enrol our daughter at Safa.
My husband did attend the tour and was very happy with the school, it's facilities and his dealings with the staff.
Sheikah73 thanks for your response, it was not long winded but informative and just what i needed to hear. My daughter also commences FS1 in September!
Thanks again everyone, I'm very grateful for responses :)
Don't forget to check out their website and facebook page - loads of info and photos on both :D

Thats why you will never see a picture of the school from the outside anywhere (not even on their website). Super ugly building from the outside. Dont know who thought it would be a good idea to paint a school building dark brown and there is a big sandpit in front of the school which is supposed to be the parking lot then its also in the industrial area as well. Wouldnt blame your husband for feeling like that. I have heard its a lovely school though. Anyways since you guys dont have a choice at the moment you can always change schools later once you have a chance to settle in and have a decent look around.
yes there a pictures of the outside on both their website and facebook page - and it's not dark brown, more a light sand colour...the car park/sandpit is to the side and a pavement and slip road is at the front...not sure what you mean by industrial area but it's opposite Dubai stable and the next block to the bowling centre...2 or 3 other schools nearby... but you are right that it IS a lovely school :D

Sheikah73 your message echoes my fear and panic. We knew we were moving one week ago so it's verrry late for school applications. Now I can't think of anything, can't go house hunting until we secure a place for our kids if we're lucky...
have you tried Safa ?

yes the building isn't terribly pretty from the outside, the sandpit carpark is a nightmare and drop-off/pick-up is a challenge !! But there are fab swimming pools, astro-turf football pitch, tennis/netball court, auditorium with 350 seats that magically disappear to convert to a gym, well equipped IT dept, well stocked library etc etc The staff are lovely and the school still has the same village school feel it's always had...Do the tour and meet the staff before you make a decision based on what you can see from the outside..

I put my son on the waiting list for 2 schools for Year 2 5 months ago whilst I was still in the uk. I had hoped that by the time I came here in March that he would have a place in one of them. It wasn't to be. At first I didn't panic as it was the Easter holidays but when they came to an end and he still wasn't at a school panic set in.....but then I got recommended Safa from a friend as she had heard good things about them. I contacted them and thankfully they had a place for him...like your husband, when I turned up at the school to hand in the application form my heart sunk. It's not a pretty building. I handed in the form with the registration fee then waited a few more days (in despair) for the tour on the Tuesday morning. The inside was not what I was expecting. I really really liked it. They have only been in the new premises since September last year and they have done so much to it and its still growing...they are opening year 7 in September and over time their plan is to have a secondary school on a new campus. What I liked about the school as well is that the assessment fee is included in the registration fee (AED500). Unlike other schools where you pay extra for the assessment exam. Safa does not do an exam, your child goes to school for the day and they asses him that way. Something I much preferred as they can really see what your child is like as a person not by how good he does in a 50 minute exam. After 6 weeks of not being in school, my son started at Safa yesterday....it was tough as he got so used to be at home so there have been a lot of tears. The added bonus is that now he is at the school, my 3 year old son has a place in FS1 to start in September as he's a sibling....seriously Safa is a lovely school....good luck and sorry this message is so long winded :-)
Thanks ladies for your replies. All contact I have had with the school to date has been fantastic. I guess I just needed reassurance. For some reason the thing that stressed me out the most with our move to Dubai was sourcing a position for my daughter in a school, once I had that in hand everything else just fell in to place (well sort of). The last thing I wanted to hear was any sort of doubt from my husband. Let me make myself clear, he did not think the school looked really bad or anything but it obviously just wasn't as picturesque as others he must have driven by that day.
Hi I agree with kissymac. I went on a tour of the school a couple of years ago and was really impressed. A friend of mine also sent her dd there and worked there as a TA so I have heard quite a lot about it.
It's a very progressive and nurturing school, although it has recently expanded so is not as 'cosy' as it used to be. But there are also positive changes - e.g. better facilities, more diverse intake.
I would definitely not judge a school based on what it looks like from the outside on a weekend. If I had done that I would never had sent my kids to their current school (lol) and yet I am very happy with it.
Get him to go and see the school on its tour. They do them on tues at 830
I always thought the school looked awful from outside but inside is amazing and it's a lovely school.
The head is also a really lovely lady and very helpful and friendly
I can offer no personal experience on Safa but from threads I've read on here the new premises have more space and better faciilities than the old school. It is not as picturesque as other schools but all schools look cold and closed up on the weekends. Tell him to go inside on a school day.
I was relieved and happy when I secured my daughter a conditional place at Safa School (Primary), and I still am. My husband is in Dubai and I will be joining him at the end of May along with our two children. Anyway he went to view the school today (from the outside) and reading between the lines I think his heart may have sank a little when he saw the outside view of the school when compared to the likes of JPS etc. I assume he is just judging a book by its cover and that there is more to this school than its street appeal. He does plan on taking a guided tour of the school but in the interim does anyone have children attending who can give us some personal feedback on their experience with the school.
