Received an email today from Air Miles which looks like a good offer if you intend to go to Aquaventure or Lost Chambers anyway - 30%discount plus Air Miles valid for all of 2016 but you do have to book this week. Glad Air Miles seem to be getting some better offers. https://www.airmilesme.com/en-ae/offer/offers/atlantis-leap-year-sale.html

I traveled that route a lot last year and the Cyprus - Malta leg was always empty hence the change i guess. I believe it is direct back now which is a positive but i understand your concerns.

We did Al Qasr last year for the second time and were totally underwhelmed. People squashed in, not enough actual xmas dinner and santa didnt make it to our area as he ran out of time, not ideal with 3 kids at the table. We've decided to get friends rou d to the apt this year, certainly will do if its going to be dry!!!!

Just been to collect our son from nursery and it is now entirely paid parking with a minimum fee of 30aed. What is wrong with this place trying to scrape every dirham possible from people. How are people meant to drop the kids to school now, will have a big effect on the businesses at Murjan.

We tried the tram again yesterday to see if it had improved at all. Door to door from the Torch to Marina Mall took a whopping 50 mins!!! On top of that despite being the only people in the station the driver decided to shut the doors on our stroller when attempting to enter so we ended up waiting for the next. Twice the train didn't stop in the correct place for the doors to open. There was another train in front of us so we had to wait to enter every station. In summary, we won't be trying the tram again! :)

Its good but the soft play is not great for little kids, our son is 2. There are sections on the higher floors where they can fall down and as such you can only let them up there if you are prepared to follow!

The rowdiness always depends on the day not the location. We did Al Qasr on Xmas day and there were large groups chanting and waving their shirts around their heads. Was like being in a Weatherspoons after a football match, not what we had hoped for.

Has to be the biggest over reaction ever! People are ignoring it down next to Tiger and Torch Tower but for the first time there is a policemen there right now catching people making the left turn down towards Sulafa. It is is going to be quite apocalyptic when everyone returns from Xmas vacations next week. Only 10 mins delay though according to RTA!

We gave it a go on Friday night, walked from Torch Tower to Marina Mall for dinner and decided to get it home as there were 6 of us, so needed two cabs anyway. First issue faced is you have to walk down the car driveway to get to the tram bridge, not sidewalks. We had two pushchairs with us so headed for the lift which doesn't seem to have been completed yet and also there is no escalator just steps. So we then had to navigate the road outside Marina Mall which is chaotic at best. When inside the ticket machines were only working for Nol so guy showed us to the other platform to buy the ticket. That machine was not accepting cards or giving change, tickets then take forever to print, 15-20 seconds per ticket so waiting for 5 took a while. We weren't really sure what to do with the ticket, as there are some machines that i think you should scan in and out on but we didn't, nobody checked the tickets. We were only on for two stops, it seems most were on for the ride and exploring, as a result it was packed. Overall it was fine for our little ride home but after 2 months of 'testing' i would have expected a lot better for the launch week. Now the flip of it as a road user is that RTA need to sort out the traffic lights! If you miss the lights at the junction with Mag 218 & Marina Heights now you are in for a 6-8 minute wait, there are long periods with no tram that none of the traffic is moving, everybody just sat staring at red lights. The whole area is just a mare now!

The tram is just as much a nuisance now it is complete as the last two years we have watched them building it!! We wait at least 6 minutes at the traffic lights by Mag 218 & Marina Heights now and also have the joy of the constant 'ding ding ding' as we are close to a junction. Like all of this city, it is all about the hype!

First line of action if they have gone nasty- Get your money out of your bank account before they tell the bank he has resigned! Your account could be frozen. Wow didn't even think of this but you are right! Thanks so much!

Hi all, our sons nanny who was due to go home to Philippines in December has received some bad news and now wants to go home asap. It is a genuine reason and as human beings we want to get her back home asap. This however leaves us in a hole for our son as DH travels a lot and i am working. We basically need care for him from now until Xmas as we had planned for family to cover from there. Can you get agency nanny's in this case, short term nursery? Open to any options please, we live in the Marina. Thanks

We used Favourite Things for a good while but found it too expensive. We now go to Fun City in Ibn Battuta and its half the price and has been cut really well in the two times we have been. The money we save means the little man can have some fun on the games too!

There is just no way an ordinary person without schooling allowance can pay 60,000 for FS1. We are getting worried now as if DS doesn't get accepted to an established school we have some big decisions to make.

In any other country this could not happen, but the authority in control here just couldn't give a flying flop!! We have not slept properly for 3 months now, this moring at 5:30 we thought a helicopter was landing on our balcony the noise was so loud and the apt was vibrating! I have emailed them and got a standard response that they are copying and pasting on their twitter account. Today though my blood was boiling as i ran through the junction by JBR and the Marina Wharf apts. School kids were navigating diggers and trucks without any crossing or control. I commented to the foreman as i ran through that it was disgraceful there are endangering the lives of school kids, let alone me, to which he replied 'No problem, what to do, its the RTA!' The total disregard for the residents is bewildering and only made worse that the press here are too spineless to report the reality. Wow rant over!

It is indeed true that you need a 2 bed and to prove this you need to show your Ejari cert. That said our friends have a 1 bed and her PRO was able to get the visa through somehow so i think its a case of who you know. I fear if you don't have anyone in the know, then you could be stuck.

As a holiday moment its priceless. Value for money wise its very expensive, we have done Atmosphere previously and would head back there before doing the burj again. Burj service was very slow and understaffed which we found very surprising. Kids are only allowed in the lobby, over 18 to go into Sky View bar, even for afternoon tea.

We've not had this issue yet with a restaurant making up their own rules and i can imagine its very frustrating, but anyone on here saying the Entertainer isn't worth the money is off their rocker! Clearly these are rogue exceptions that have had a change of heart but that's not really the Entertainers fault, their problem is the product is valid for a year. We have saved over 6,000aed so far this year according to the app calculation so it is keeping us happy! :) <em>edited by Jenc123 on 10/06/2014</em>

We have Lloyds in USD and GBP. It's free as we had a UK Lloyds account. No complaints thus far, just about to send some to the USD account as the sterling rate is so bad.

They will always be 'similar', to what is advertised. We use arguscarhire all of the time, only issue we had there was with europecar, twice we had duff cars. Don't forget there is an entertainer there now which is very good.

Wow, i'm afraid to take my iPad out of the changing bag now! We use the iPad with our DS who is almost 2 in short bursts and the learning and development that can be gained through apps is fantastic for the brain, speech and also eye to hand co-ordination. He certainly doesn't use it every day but if watching Clubhouse episode while we eat a main course at a restaurant in relative peace is a crime then we are guilty! Everything in moderation and all that.

Does anybody know who is still doing this as we are not able to add him to our medical through work and don't want to come off our policies. So far we have only been able to find RAK Insurance who offer this at present for 3,400aed? Thanks

20% is the max increase, which is what we are staring at in the Marina!! I like that the calculator exists but it just doesn't take into account so many variables like size, standard of buidling or view, all of which dictate the average fee in any area ad most certainly the Marina. Still work to do from the government to truly make this fair.

Just an update on the level of service that prompted this thread. The bank in question have today finally admitted we were miss-informed on 4 occasions, they have listened to the calls and no question we are out of pocket because of it, however instead of refunding us they want to give us some points on our card that will be worth less than a third of outlay incurred. The final nail for us so the process of moving commences, oh joy!

The Jurys Inn in Christchurch is a great location and value. Depends on your budget really as anywhere. A lot of enjoyment there comes from walking around the likes of Temple Bar, Grafton Street, St Stephens Green and surroundign areas. Salamanca is a great Tapas restaurant just off Grafton Street. Also some very cool bars on Dawson Street, Cafe Enseine is fabulous!

It is sarahlou123, simple things like who is covered by CC insurance, we had 4 different answers prior to our vacation and in the end they were all incorrect. If you cannot trust their staff with simple matters like this then what hope do we have with bigger issues. They closed our local branch too so its appeal has expired.
