Hi Welcome to Abu Dhabi I live on Reem Island when I was looking for an apartment I was surprised at how small some of the apartment were. I can't help you out with your search but if you go to abudhabiwomen forum it gets more traffic and someone there might be able to help you. I wish you luck with your search

Picasa? Loads of functional features, especially ones that transform an ordinary selfie/photo to a creaseless glamma-mamma FB-profile piece of art ;-) edited by Dee2013 on 16/05/2013 I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that :)

Hi chizz I was also under the impression the rent could only rise by 10% but contract runs out 5th June, last month our LL advised us the rent was going up by 12.5% as we had decided we were moving off the Pearl anyway I didn't look into this. Sorry I'm really not much help but it looks like the LL's on the Pearl can do what they like

If a new employee is arriving then the employer should arrange a visit visa or business visa in advance -- a new employee shouldn't have to enter the country on a tourist visa at the airport. That was not the question...the question was can you pay cash in the customs hall

Not sure you can pay cash, Ive been thru Immigration quite afew times and they always ask for a card. Mind you I have never asked If I could pay cash, they never give you the option. I know you can't pay cash at the desk I was hoping there was somewhere else you could pay

Thanks, Mustard.... at least one thing I don't have to buy... I'm having a look at Facebook page for selling 2nd hand items in Qatar, and seems to be that electric heaters are necessary, is it ok? Is it cold in winter (because of the humidity, I suppose, as in the Spanish coast...)? Thanks again and excuse me for so many questions... No Problem ask as many as you need, we haven't got a heater but I am freezing I've been wearing OH's sweatshit in the evenings

Mustard, I'm quite bad calculating distances... how much time aprox you need from tower 30/31 to reach Spinneys? And, do you think that riding a bycicle in the Pearl is a good option to move (and exercise)? Thanks for your help. It's about 20min walk I'm not sure if you can cycle on the pearl I guess you can on the main road but there are some crazy drivers here not sure if I'd use a bike here Thanks! 20 minutes is ok for me, I'm used to walk a lot for the daily shopping here in Madrid, never go to big supermarkets in the malls, love to buy in the small supermarkets and shops, 15-20 minutes walking from my home. About the bicycle, I also refer to the pedestrian area, not the main road around... Ok, once we lived there, I will check that. Regards! Yes!:)I assume that! I will go in the early morning, when possible! By the way, and thinking in new stuff to buy here and move there, do you think an de-humidifier (sorry, not sure about the right word) is useful there, most of all for my child? He sleeps every night here with an humidifier. We've never had a problem

Joos - live on The Pearl, but have never visited the beach. Are there sunbeds there and do you have to pay for them? Do you have to have proof of residence too? Are we also allowed to ride bikes along the pedestrian bit of The Pearl? Have never seen anyone doing it.... Thanks edited by chizz on 17/01/2013 The beach is lovely chairs, tables & sunbeds there, you can get a pass from the front desk of the tower you live in you will need this to use the beach security there at all times. I don't think you can use bikes but you can cycle on the main road around but you know what the driving is like here I'm not sure if I would

Dear Ladies, About the interesting point that Mustard added about being careful choosing the tower to live in Porto Arabia, I have some questions: - Based in your experience, which are the best towers to live? Nice apartments, terrace, kitchen and maintenance. - I've seen some apartments to rent in tower 30, that seems to be newer and very nice (in the photos, of course). Do you know this tower? - Is Sabban Towers a very crowded area, I mean the swimming pool, kids zone and common areas? I like that towers, but always have the idea that they are 3 towers sharing only a pool... - And a curiosity... the pools have sea water or normal one? Thanks for your help as usual and have a nice day! Kind regards from Madrid. I have been living in tower 30 since October when it opened and would recommend it 100%. It is quiet, still not many people around so the facilities are not crowded at all. There is a big company renting many of the apartments and they keep the tower management on their toes. The great thing about it is the beach is a five minute walk away! The pool has regular water and is heated. edited by joos on 17/01/2013 I would recommend tower 30 or 31 newer buildings with less problems also still have in-house maintenance only down side long walk to spinneys but hopefully new spinneys will be opening soon

I stand to be corrected here, but I think that 2 bed unfurnished apartments at the Pearl start at around QR12 000/mnth. QR22k per month to live on is definitely do-able. Qatar is an expensive place to live and how much you're able to save will depend on your lifestyle. Kimmc3 is correct 2 bed unfurnished run between 12.5 to 14 be careful what tower you pick as some no longer have in house maintenance and is now up to your landlord to fix things if they go wrong

Thanks very much for your replies! - Mustard, where do you live exactly on the Pearl? Porto Arabia? Do you think we have enough budget (16k) to rent an apartment there? I'm happy to hear that there is an small supermarket, at least! - kimmc3, could you please tell me the name of the school you mention (for non-native English speakers) in order I can arrange it with enough time? Thanks again! Wishing to hear another opinions and experiences, please! Thanks for the help! Yes I live in Porto Arabia tower 8b just behind spinneys we have a 2bed plus small maids room (only really big enough for a study) @ a month so I'm sure you could find a 3 bed @ 16k edited by Mustard on 29/11/2012

Hi Maradentro I live on the pearl there is a small supermarket (spinneys) here lots of coffee shops, you are right about Qanat Quartier lovely apartments but no shops open yet & not many people living there. I'm not sure about all towers on the pearl but we have a pass to a private beach. It's lovely to spend an afternoon there. it's also not far by Taxi to city centre shopping mall which has a big C4 supermarket. I don't like driving here and get most places by taxi they are very cheap. Good luck with your move :) Flying into Madrid on wednesday then driving south to Rojales edited by Mustard on 26/11/2012 edited by Mustard on 26/11/2012

I think with people getting married later in life and more 2nd marriages (after one party is divorced), the traditional way wedding finances were handled has progressed. [b'>Personally, I didn't want the 'traditional way' because I felt it gave other people too much control![/b'> Sorry to side step the original question! I think anything goes these days. Whatever suits the individual couple and their circumstances. Same here coffee mate, myself and my husband paid for our own wedding, it never actually occurred to me that either of our parents would pay. Plus with my parents twice divorced if each of them had a say in the day it would have been even more stressful than it was trying to keep things happy. Myself & my ex husband also paid for our own wedding but unfortunately it did not stop my now ex MIL from interfering in every aspect of our wedding. But lesson learned I'm getting married again next year and I will not let anyone tell me what I can & can't do

If the bride can't pay for them then she shouldn't have them! Or she should budget them into the total cost of her wedding and cut costs elsewhere. I think it's only fair if it's her day and she has asked her BMs the honour of being there for her on her big day that she pays for dresses. I've never been to a wedding or been in a wedding party where I have had to pay. Agreed, it would be like inviting someone round to your home for dinner then asking them to chip in for the meal! lol.... My thoughts exactly

I understand it's pretty common from my recent following on bridal forums. (which having just been a bride myself is extensive to say the least!!) However, it usually comes under the agreement that the bridesmaid has more say in choosing the gown. Personally, I wouldn't dream of asking bm's to cough up for the dress but I guess some brides just aren't in the financial position to pay for them (especially if there are several bridesmaids) Maybe that's why there's so many on Ebay! surly you factor it into the cost of your wedding & if you can't afford to buy several bm gowns you would just have one

The bride selected a decent priced dress, then paid for hair/make up as her contribution. I think that's awful..... all of it should be here contribution; her day after all.... edited by snowinthesahara on 22/11/2012 I agree with you I would never ask anyone to buy their own dress what if it's not really to their taste and would never wear it again what a waste of money
