Hello,

I need to sign up for private health insurance but have never had one in Dubai before, since I've always been covered through work.

Does anyone have any tips? I don't have a family, so it's just for me...

E.

Used to be with Next care through my husband's job but when he changed they new employer doesn't cover me. I used Next care a few times including when I broke ligaments and had to have emergency assistance over a weekend. Went to Emirates Hospital under their network and was 100% satisfied how through everything was especially when the specialist came in during his day off to assess me. Now I'm about to contract with Bupa and used Pacific Prime as brokers. I definitely advice to get help from a broker as they can help navigate the options suitable to you specifically and help you tailor the policy.

Haven't made any claims for our cars and very few on the health insurance but don't have any complaints about their service. Isn't that a little like buying a car, never driving it, and saying that you have never had a problem with it? : ) You only know what your insurance company is like when you start making claims. We did a lot of research with various companies, and found it quite remarkable that when you compare all of the different plans, you get what you pay for. There are many variable in terms of deductibles and what is covered, and you have to look very carefully at the fine print. A good deal may not be such a good deal...if something happens. Insurance is all a numbers game.

If you want to reduce the premium then consider taking the options where you pick up after the initial $250 or whatever. It can make a difference but you have to consider how often you use or are likely to use the doctor. Try Global Aetna as well. You can see on line. None of it is cheap!

Thank you very much for the different suggestions! That's great. Will check out a few of the options mentioned and see how I go, it's a great starting point☺

Nasco I have used for business schemes as well as personal over the years. Ask fro Karim Barbara however he is on holiday until after Eid. I think you can get personal medical insurance from Bupa, Aetna and one other. Ive currently got Bupa and its an excellent scheme and I can transfer to a personal scheme afterwards as long as I complete 12 months with the business scheme (otherwise there is a 12 month waiting period). We have our health insurance and both cars insured with AXA. Have been with them for three years. Haven't made any claims for our cars and very few on the health insurance but don't have any complaints about their service. However, can only speak for myself and other people may have different tales to tell. We renewed our health insurance about a month ago and did get alternative quotes, but couldn't find anything cheaper than AXA.

Pacific Prime are a really good brokers. They dont charge you for their services, and deal with both personal and corporate. Try calling Owen on +971 56 767 4758. HTH edited by LMAO-DXB on 14/08/2011

I have worked with B2W to find the best plans in this area for both private and corporate. Call Joan (+971 56 650 2677) or Maria (+971 55 415 2977)...both very helpful!
