Hi,

my DH will start his new job in Garhood, next to Deira City Center in November. We are living at the moment in Dubai Marina Area and i love it but he wants to move closer to his work.

Actually i don't know where to look for a new apartment. I'm looking for a quiet, (if possible green) environment, all facilities (pool, gym) and close by the Metro.

Any hint/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Close to Deira City Centre - check Dubai Healthcare City, Wafi Residences, Oud Metha/Lamcy area. If you want to be near Deira City Centre, check buildings behind Ibis/Novotel and behind Day to Day store - all of them near City Centre and next to metro station + relatively quiet place (considering all the traffic in Deira). Dubai Festival City is nice, quiet and green, but metro is no where close.

If you want to be near Garhoud, you might not find a lot of green areas. I think, as one of the ladies mentioned here, best place to look is on Sheikh Zayed Road near a metro station. How about DIFC/Emirates Towers area? That will be 7 stops to Deira City Centre.

Thanks Ladies. I'm not worry to not find a flat but I'm looking for something special which meet my expectations. I use our big gym/pool regular, Marina is around the corner where i used to go for roller skating. I'm afraid that in Deira i will get frustrated as its not green, quiet or any kind of options to take a walk outside.

I am not sure of the cost but Deira CIty Centre has it's own apartments, studio up to 3 bedroom. There are loads of buildings in the area, I am sure you will find something.

Mirdif is also an easy and fast drive to garhoud and theres lots of accommodation there. Festival city can be very pricey and its difficult to find accommodation there as its very popular. Garhoud itself is also quite expensive and mostly old but large villas. The apartments that are there are quickly snapped up. Another option you might want to consider is Sheik Zayed Road apartments. They are a few minutes drive away as well and theres loads of them on the market at reasonable prices. The apartments there are quite big too. The OP's husband doesn't want to drive-so they need to be near a Metro station

G, we have a dishwasher ;) Maybe depends on which ones you have viewed. Our open kitchen is open as there is a window type hole in the wall. If you wanted to close that up you could put a wooden blind - then it would be closed. must be the layouts you have viewed which are totally open. Oh really, 2 years ago i saw 6-7 flats in the Executive Towers. Honestly i didn't like the layout of the 1 BR our broker showed us. I love to cook so i want a biiiiig (and closed) kitchen.

My family had a villa in the Creek and Yacht Club for a few years and they were lovely and green, right near your DHs work, too. the villas are amazing but over our budget. I personally like the Festival City compound but a friend advised there is a waiting list for apartments there. @LDC Thanks for the information. I will have a look. @BettysHotspot I'm not a big fan of the Executive Towers because of the open kitchen and there is not enough space for a dishwasher @Kezzler/Cornish Pixie/hilsbils Thanks for the advice. After a horrible car accident my DH stop driving in Dubai and the journey to DCC will take him 45 mins one way by metro. I'm driving, so its easy to for me to reach my office in Jebel Ali. @sourskittleashnut I like the Sama Tower but there is no balcony, which is essential for us. @Majoe Are there facilities (Pool, Gym) in Shurooq?

If you're looking for greenery etc, a great location and easy access to SZR, check out Executive Towers - the podium level has lovely trees, grass etc, huge pools, gym etc you are on SZR in a couple of minutes, loads of amenities now (Spinneys, Tips and Toes, Curry Box etc) - apartments are well sized with views to choose from sea to Burj K etc.

If you love it in the Marina, you should stay. Tell hubby the journey isn't very long, I work in Ramoul (near Garhoud) and live in JLT and it only takes 20 mins. Hope that helps.

Check out Shurooq apartments near Mirdiff, beautiful apartments with huge alfresco areas that really feel like villas, all set in lovely green grounds.

I have 2 colleagues working near DCC and they both live in The Marina - tell him it'll cost a fortune to move!! If he insists then look at Festival City there are some lovely apartments there, I think you need to visit the Al Futtaim Leasing Dept just along from IKEA.

For is information, when I did that same commute it only took me 35 minutes door to door as there is no traffic going that way in the mornings. Ditto return. I avoided the SZR and took the business bay exit (ie Dubai Mall) and followed the Oud Metha/ Al Wasl hospital signs which bring you to the end of SZR (and this stretch is virtually empty in the mornings) and beyond the Makktoum traffic and from there it was usually very quick. edited by hilsbils on 20/09/2012

There's a complex of apartment and villas just opposite Dubai City Centre, most of the villas are hidden but the prices are really good. I think the agent is Dubai International Real Estate. Hope this helps

We are in Sama Tower and love it, it's right next to the Metro station, between Fairmont Hotel and Monarch Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road. No green environment tho, but a lovely building, easy access to Zabeel roundabout so you can head to Garhoud bridge quickly and easily
