Looking for some help

Never done New Year in Dubai and the kids want to go to some fireworks. I know traffic awful and Burj Khalifa a nightmare so where do you suggest we could go to watch. Want to be able to get home fairly quickly so on the outskirts somewhere. Someone said one of the highways, but can you just pull over?????

Help please. Also, what time would we need to be there.

Burj Al Arab was amazing, seemed they went on forever. And having Atlantis and JBR in the background added to it. I think from close by the Atlantis must have been stunning.

I loved the fireworks!!! BK, BAA, and Rixos... Burj Khalifa one was quite short but Burj al Arab kept going on for 15mins... Happy New Year!!!

I'm sorry to hear they were so short. We were down at Umm Suqeim Beach and saw that they seemed to finish very early off the tower but presumed there was lots of interesting stuff going on at ground level with the fountains and lasers etc. At the risk of rubbing your nose in it (but for the record for next year), Umm Suqeim was awesome. The fireworks off the Burj al Arab and Atlantis must have gone on for 20 mins and were quite spectacular with hearts and spirals, planets etc being formed. Parking was effortless if you were prepared to park between Al Wasl and Beach road and walk a bit (about 500m) and we beat the traffic home as we left as soon as the fireworks had finished. Would thoroughly recommend it as an option next year. Dubai was really beautiful tonight. Many thanks to the teams that pulled it all off!

Just back from watching Burj Khalifa fireworks --- was anyone else surprised at how short it was. What was there was nice, interesting and different -- but really they could have spread them out to make it a bit longer. Frankly, disappointed and not worth the effort and time. Sorry, I am not normally on the down side of things but was really surprised.

I live in Executive Towers and have just heard that they are closing Business Bay and Dubai Mall metro stations. Not sure how accurate it i though. If you can drive down you could go behind Executive Towers onto Bay Avenue. Unrestricted view of the Burj Khalifa and last year it was very quiet. At the moment hardly any traffic but I cannot see SZR.

so all this DRAMA about roads being shut and it's a turning!!!! Please. There was no drama, a poster said she thought a road was closed and almost immediately made a correction stating it was an exit. Posters are not here to [i'>serve[/i'>. Perhaps offer some gratitude when people take the time to respond, regardless of whether they made a (very minor) error or not? We'll be taking the metro into downtown, and hoping that there are taxis in tecom for the return trip home! Should be an interesting night if nothing else :)

If you go to Google maps and switch 'Traffic' on you will see the exit towards DM on the Financial Centre intersection is slow moving. Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.

there's a big queue for the Dubai mall exit (Sharjah bound) but I can see blue flashing lights so maybe there's been an accident and people are rubber necking, if past years are anything to go by this exit will be have a queue and be very slow moving until after midnight! my advice if you want to go to Downtown tonight is to park behind Mazaya Centre and walk across the metro bridge to the area.

Eek DH and DS just got back from Ibn Battuta. Apparently SZR is already gridlocked north. Took them 30 mins to get to exit 32 (Emirates Hills turn-off). ??? I am looking at SZR right now from behind Marina Mall and it it moving freely in both directions, if anything it's probably quieter than usual for this time of night?

Aw, come on girls, don't fight. It's New Year. Let's start it nicely... I for one, am appreciating any information that comes my way. Does anyone know if there is a facebook page relating to the traffic and road closures for New Year?

The Meydan Bike track has a road that cars can use that runs parallel to the 44 Al Khail Road and this would give you a decent view. I have no idea if it will be closed this eve but if open could be a great place to park up. There is something going on there as I saw a few portaloos and chairs but assume this was tickets only and was inside a fence. You go into Bike track from road to Meydan and turn left once in..

I *believe* that the authorities have already closed the road from SZR to BAA. Which road do you mean? Burj al Arab maybe??? Then you would have to travel down Al Sufouh road past Palace Beach and Al Qasr? Will Umm Suqiem Road be closed too then? They are trying to close more as well...that was the reason for my prior confusion.

They've advertised it on their Facebook page. Thanks Amy. Didn't even know there was a FB page! Off to *like* that one, I guess, LOL.
