last year i took dh to Magnolia in Madinat jumeirah onloverlooking burj al arab. the food there was divine and the service was very good.its a vegetarian restaurant but with some amazing dishes. bill was about 600 i think. and the boat ride in any of the restaurants in there is an added bonus :)
I took my husband to Atmosphere on Burj Khalifa and we had a tasting menu. The best food we have had in Dubai. But it did set me back 2000 AED! I nearly fell off my chair!
Wow these are some interesting suggestions. Ill prob book a dinner table at one of the places suggested below. Thank you so much ladies. This forum rocks :))
My hubby took me to Table 9 at Hilton Dubai Creek for my birthday this year - their tasting menu with wine pairing was lovely and they sent us home with a goodie bag of homemade candies from their candy bar. For a cake, how about Magnolia Bakery at Bloomingdales downstairs?
The Grand Grill at the Habtoor Grand hotel is great and they make a real fuss of you if it's your birthday and they sing a great birthday song. they will also do a dessert for your birthday.
My top choice would be Rivington Grill at the Madinat or Souk Al Bahar
Gauchos - difc
The Ivy - emirates towers
Hukama - the Address Downtown
Make sure you tell the restaurant that it's a special occasion as most will do something special for a birthday.
Chocoa at the back of mall of the emirates do amazing cakes - you can park right by the shop. Coco;s also do lovely cakes for a birthday. Or....go to one of the cupcake shops and buy some delicious cupcakes. How about a marble slab ice cream birthday cake - they are good or a basin robbins ice cream cake.
Absolutely concur with simples' recommendations re Madinat 'signature' restaurants. Pier Chic is a fantastic one, for example, where we've celebrated anniversaries etc in the past.
Re your cake ... are we to assume this is a cake for 'home'? If so, enjoy!
I've bought great cakes from Jones the Grocer (on SZR), and the Lime Tree Cafe - there are several different outlets - will also do delicious takeaway cakes if you order in advance. Highly recommend the carrot cake (if you're into that sort of thing); the icing is to DIE for.
If you want to take the cake to dinner with you, however, do check with the restaurant first. Most restaurants would prefer you order a special cake/dessert through them (and a lot of restaurants will comp' it for you - I know Pier Chic does) and will charge you extra if you bring your own food.
Welcome to Dubai! There are lots of lovely restaurants in Dubai, it really depends what you want. Maybe you could try one of the "signature" restaurants at Madinat Jumeirah and go to the Mina A' Salam hotel entrance and take an abra to the one of your choice - fantastic experience the first time you do it.
You might want to take advantage of this offer, but even if not, you can see a list of the Madinat "Signature" restaurants here:

We get special occasion cakes from Shakespeare & Co (branches round about) or Brunetti in the Dubai Mall - but it's difficult to get small sized cakes, unless you just buy individual ones!

Hi Ladies, Its only been 3 weeks that we moved here. Its my husbands birthday on Monday. Since we are temporarily living at Dubai Marina, i found the dinner cruises to be a nice way to celebrate but now that its very hot, can anyone please suggest a fabulous restaurant and a great bakery where i can buy a small cake from?
Thanks,
Shafaq
