Never had facial in my life and I am in my 40s. I never believed in facials and if they really can improve anything. Always thought they were more for relaxation then anything else. Now here in Dubai, I hear about different type of facials!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you believe in facial?? Why?

Do you mind me asking how much this costs? and where you get it done I go to In Shape in Jumeirah and it costs 380dh for 90 mins. I did notice there is a voucher in the Body Book for a 90 min Guinot Hydradermie facial at Jumeirah Creekside. I might give that a go. The other thing I didn't mention when I was raving about the facials the other day, was that after I had my first Guinot one, the 2 or 3 milia I had on my cheek, for over a year, just fell out. I was thrilled. I really think the most important thing is finding something that works for you. I had tried Guinot previously in the UK before I got married (almost 8 years ago) and I never thought they were anything special, so maybe it just suits my skin better now. FFx I use all the Jan Marini glycolic products at home. They are not cheap but great for your skin Regular facials do not do anything for my skin at all

yes I do. When I was about 26, I used to go for facials 1x a month - extraction, followed by glycolic peel. My skin was suberp, glowing and looked fantastic. Life went on, moved here, stopped going. 13 years later, when I look at the pictures of the time when i went for facials, its amazing to me to see the difference in my skin. Some would say age - but pictures before the facials, vs, during, vs after are remarkable. I have resumed facials in the last 4 weeks, and my skin feels so clean, and my spots are going away. I think there is so much grime, dirt and sand here that our poors get unnaturally clogged. I notice a difference already but again, i'm doing extractions and now microdermabrasion. In respect of aromotherapy, and various products, I don't see a difference at all. Where do you do your facials? I am shopping around:)

I'm afraid I have to disagree with most of you lovely ladies. In my late 30s I developed recurrent hormonal acne on my chin and no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of it, for 2 weeks a month my chin was a mess. I started going for regular dermalogica facials and they never did very much for me, but I though I should keep going. However, recently I changed to Guinot hydradermie facials and they have completely changed my skin. It is glowing, no more breakouts. I go about once every 6 weeks-2mths and when things start to go bump on my skin it reminds me that I havn't been for a while. It definitely keeps my skin in check. The rest of the time I'm pretty lax with my skincare routine - exfoliating etc but I swear by the correct facials. FFx Do you mind me asking how much this costs? and where you get it done

Vanilla is on Sheikh Zayed Rd, maybe White Crown bldg near the bldg with McDonalds and Nazih Trading (the beauty supply place). I went there once for waxing, it was nice but haven't returned.

I have had facials since I was 16 to control my break outs around that time of the month, after going to a couple of spas here I now go to Vanilla, they have a fantastic deep cleanse (90 mins)with great products (Pevonia Botanica) and they remove all the white and black heads, if I dont get mine removed they get infected- sounds all kinds of wrong I know- I wish I had flawless skin- but never have! :( Where is vanilla?

@blondie007. I never tried these facials here. I only have them back home when I go. Try to find out if they have here anywhere and give it a try. Trial and error! :) Sorry cannot help more.

Yes. I get blackheads which need to be removed somehow. I have had facials at L'esprit de Beaute, Elche, Simply Skin, Jebel Ali Hotel Spa, Amouage Beauty Ctr in Sharjah, Shangri La Dubai, Dubai Ladies Club. Currently I'm solving the problem with nightly application of 1% BHA gel. Might consider one of the places mentioned on this thread. I also like micro-dermabrasion, the results were awesome the one time that I tried it, but can't recommend the place I had it at due to the cosmetologist's crappy attitude.

No problem Marroosh, I go to In Shape on Jumeirah Beach Road and there is a lady there called Anna who does Guinot facials. I have the 90 min one. It's pretty no-frills, so don't be expecting a luxury spa experience, but it's fine and, as I said, my skin is really benefitting. FFx Thanks a lot, will have a look at it:)

Depending on the facials. If we talk about the ones where the beautician just applies hydrating masks and makes a massage, then no. But I swear by paraffin facial-for dehydrated and aged skin and also for the caviar facial, with micro-lifting effect. At these you see the difference before and after. And those facials are done in a sequence and the effect lasts for weeks. For the rest I just use a range of dermato-cosmetics special for skin 40+ (I brought these from home) and for usual home facials with honey, coc0nut oil, clay masks and exfoliating masks. Where do you recommend to get these type of facials ? Sounds fantastic !

I agree with Fairfield and simoralu: if you find the right dermatological facial for your skin, it really makes a difference. I had this diamond like facial and it did wonder to my skin. Of course the 4 s and a good routine are great too but after 40, a little help from outside worth trying.

I really believe in facials. I never had a good skin to begin with, but with regular facials it did improve. When I moved here, I didn't have facials for about two years because I didn't trust the people here with my sensitive skin. In those two years my skin aged considerably. Instead of looking at least five years younger than my age, I started to look about 5 years older than my age! During those two years I did 'home facials' weekly, using masks I brought from home. It did help a bit, but is not a replacement for a proper salon facial. To make matters worse, I can't buy the products I used in Dubai. About a year ago I found Essa Beauty Salon and started with a monthly facial again. My skin is not back to where it was when I moved here, but it is steadily improving. I now also changed the products I use and can see a difference. I will never make the mistake again to not go for my regular facial. What I find an important part of going for a facial is the fact that my skin changes and it is not always so easy for me to see what my skin really needs. A good therapist can see what is necessary for my skin and treat it accordingly. An added advantage of going for my monthly facial is that I also treat myself with a manicure and pedicure with the lovely ladies at the salon while I am there.

I do not believe in salon facials at all.... Although I will admit when I was in my early 20's I did get a few, but only a few (once a year probably). However I do believe in homemade face masks. Just another way to cleanse and keep it smooth and does not cost a fortune.

i don't like facials but i love the massage :) got 3 times before marriage then 1 after (last year at thailand) now even if i want i don't have time with the baby. apart from my nose looking radiant for a day ( as i have excessive deep blackheads) i don't feel any difference. have no problems with the skin (30 year old) apart from hyperpigmentation after pregnancy . go for a massage if you want ot splurge.

RamC... you have *no* need to worry about your lack of facials. I think I have had one in total and that didn't make any difference! The only reason I had it was that I was pg and wanted a massage but would have had to sign a disclaimer for that so opted for a facial instead. To staying young(ish) looking you just need to avoid the 4 S's: Sun Smoking Stress Sleeplessness (lol) Oh and don't drink too much either. I'm 39 and although my skin isn't perfect, I'm happy with how I look. I don't buy any expensive skincare products, but have a basic cleansing routine and that's it. If you fancy a lift, better to spend your money on clothes and a new hairdo. Have fun :-)

They refresh my skin for the day but long term no Totally agree - They do though generally let you know about problem areas or areas that need more care, so that is good. They also normally are trying to get you to buy their products. I am happy with my skin care routine.

Wow, I am shocked. I thought i would get bombarded by all the beautiful ladies here and be laughed at for not having facials. I am so surprised and appreciate your honesty. I don’t have a problem skin and never had acne in my life, but I just thought since turning 40, I might need to do some extra stuff. I really thought facials would dramatically improve something, not sure what? That is why I needed to ask you all ;) thank you. Now I can spend my money on something useful

I think I'd look the same whether I was a regular aficionado (or not). They're a holiday treat for me so obviously, I don't have them regularly. Lots of fun, very relaxing, but I'm not sure they *do* much in the grand scheme of things unless you have 'problem skin' and go for special treatments. For me, they're all about the relaxation. I prefer having massages and would choose them over a facial anyday. :)
