Thanks for all the tips Maple, I will keep them in mind for the test. Yes, I heard you can take the test early and if you pass you don't have to complete the course, which is great. Its a bit unfair that you don't get refunded for the rest of the course but I guess the sooner I pass the better!

Thanks again.

Mindi, I took driving classes here in April/May 2011 from Al Rayyan driving school. The school was highly recommended by DH's colleagues and I found it to be good as well. I was learning to drive for the first time and after completing 20 classes (paid for all 40 classes), the instructor asked me to try the test as ladies are usually given four attempts. Fortunately I passed in my first attempt. I think its very important to remain calm during the test and try to follow the instructor's details carefully. For the road test, you are apparently given points from the minute you sit in the car (how u adjust the rear view mirror, sequence of handbrake etc etc) so do keep all that in mind.
Its a different story that I hardly drive as the roundabouts make me nervous but thats just me. Good Luck!!

Note: There are evening classes as well at this school so you can choose.

Thanks good morning! I will definitely check them out, I need all the help I can get as I am pretty hopeless, so a more lenient examiner would be great!

Hi!

I was wondering whether any of you have learnt to drive recently in Doha and if so whether you are able to offer any advice on which school is best? I had so many lessons in the UK and embarrasingly failed twice before moving. I have been told that the minimum requirement is 40 lessons over here, does this sound right?

Also, the schools all say that I have to have an eye test at an optician before starting the lessons, can anyone recommend an optician they have used for a driving test examination?

Many thanks in advance!
