Japan Resumes Short-Term Visas for UAE Residents Through VFS
UAE residents keen on travelling to the East Asian destination can now apply through VFS Global
30 July 2024
The e-visa application system is no longer available for UAE residents.
After months of suspension of the Japan e-visa portal for UAE residents, good news has arrived for those looking to visit the East Asian tourism hotspot!
For the past several weeks, residents had to email the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and request a regular visit visa application appointment. Now, expatriate UAE residents can submit their applications for short-term visas to Japan through VFS Global.
The consulate will no longer be directly processing short-term visas for UAE residents.
Applicants for a diplomatic stay or official visit can continue to apply through the Japanese Consulate-General in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Emiratis with a valid UAE passport can visit Japan visa-free.
The Japan e-visa application system - which enabled non-citizen residents of select countries such as the US, UK, Singapore, etc. to apply for a 90-day electronic travel visa online - is no longer open to UAE residents.
The reason remains unknown.
