Adding to what others have written..

- re: shipping formula or weaning products, it would depend on how the shipment was classified. If it's classified as food/groceries, you won't have any issues. If it's classified as a health or medicinal product, it will most likely get caught up in Customs (example: my friend's whey protein powder was always sent straight to Customs b/c it was shipped as a health product). So, if you are shipping it yourself, then I'd suggest sending it with some other stuff and declaring it as food/groceries.

- as for baby shops, BEDH mentioned a long list.. and there's actually four Mothercare's in Doha (Hyatt Plaza, Landmark Mall, City Center Mall and The Mall) which are all relatively small shops compared to the ones in the UK. This being said, you can order from their catalogs if they don't have something in stock. The Mamas & Papas shop is located in Villaggio Mall, which is still closed due to the fire in late May. Additionally, there's a store called Chicco's in City Center Mall which sells baby gear and clothes, and clothing stores called Gymboree (Landmark and Lagoona Malls) and Carter's (Hyatt Plaza and The Mall). You won't have any trouble finding children's clothing here, but the selection of baby gear is more limited, not to mention expensive compared to UK prices, so bring what you can from the UK.

-As for sangenic nappy bins and refills, I bought my bins at the local Mothercare shop, but they did not have the refills in stock so I ordered them from amazon.co.uk. I would bring both your bins and your refills with you b/c you never know if the shops will stock them or not.

Has any one experienced any problems with shipping a supply of baby formula / weaning products from the UK into Doha?

Off the top of my head you can get clothes from is GAP , Zara, M&S , Next , Mothercare , mamas and papas ,BHS , H& M , and a small selection at Toys r Us .
Mothercare has a three small shops and there is also a local chain called babyshop which has baby supplies .
Toys r us has prams etc too . There are several small ELC shops .
I find everything more expensive and there isn't much variety .

I'm in Europe now and stocking up on toys and books for my toddler boys as well as pjs ,swimwear , soft pre walker shoes , new 12-18m , sunhats and nice clothes . you can't find things like an ergo baby carriers ,or a wide selection of carseats and specialist baby kit in Doha but there is a good new/second hand classified market in Qatar through the Doha Mums group .

Thanks BEDH. I'll bring nappy sacks. Apart from mothercare what other baby stores are there, is the mothercare big? Just trying to work out what if anything baby wise I need to bring.

Our compound collects refuse twice daily so there is really no need for the sangenic bins . I had two in nappies for almost a year and in the heat prefer to have the smelly ones taken out of the house ASAP .
You can get the cartridges and bins at mothercare sometimes but really not worth it IMO .

Hi, hope you dont mind me joining in, Im also moving to Doha from UK soon and have a one year old baby. Speaking of nappy sacks, is it possible to buy sangenic nappy bins and cartridges there or should we bring ours? Or can we order from amazon and get delivered there?

The local Aptamil isn't the same formulation in the GCC as the UK which is explained by the manufacturers as modified to suit the preferance of the local population . It's sweeter but a baby won't notice , actually my OB warned me not to use it because of sugar content but could possibly be because he was paid to promote Similac .

I brought organic baby cereal back from the UK when I was weaning my youngest this year as I never saw a constant supply .
Megamart usually has that sort of thing but it's pricey .

Ella kitchen stuff , baby rice etc is in every supermarket .
Bring nappy sacks though , I never seem to find them and hate treking cross town to hunt down one thing .

Tyrone, Aptamil is one of the most widely available formulas here, you can find it in any supermarket or pharmacy. I would still bring a couple of cans from home though if your baby has a sensitive tummy as the formulation here might be slightly different.

Hi - yes Aptamil 1 and 3 is available in Doha - they even have the ready made small individual cartons too. Its best to buy several when you find them though as they can run out sometimes but yes generally easy to dind in several different shops so dont worry!
