Any updates on Dentists in Doha?

I've searched previous threads and Drs Fady Alian and Eric Chavaux seem to be popular.

DH needs a root canal and after having some dire dental work done here over the years (when he was desperate and couldn't get to Oz to see his regular dentist!) he wants a professional that does the job required with no messing around.

So, just wanted to check to see if there were any other dentists that you recommend or any further glowing reports of the above named ...

TIA

I've used Dr Lubna Kutbe at Family Dental Clinic off C-Ring road near the petrol station. She is Jordanian I believe and studied dentistry at Marquette in Wisconsin. She was excellent (cleaning, filling, and root canal - all work I knew had to be done and she did it very well). I think her brother (who also trained at Marquette) is also working there - Lubna was not available the last time I wanted a checkup and they mentioned him to me. As it was just a cleaning I waited until I got to my home country and home dentist but if I needed to see someone here (other than Lubna) I'd be willing to give him a try. There are not so flattering stories about the Canadian dentist there - some thought that he tried to pad the bill with unnecessary services - I don't know if it is true or not

Hi, I have usedd Hamad Medical Dentist at Al KHor Medical centre using my Hamad medical card (although not admittedly in the last year as I moved into Doha) You just went with Hamad card and I think I paid 50 ryals. Service was quick, meticulously clean and the treatment very good (although I only had a check up and cleaning done) I was very happy with the service. Now on a different medicall insurance I use Qatar Lebanese Dentist Dr George or Dr Hobach. Excellent service (although not cheap my insurance pays) I could definitely recommend these dentists. Fully endorsed,

Has anyone been to a free dentist at the medical centres? I noticed at West Bay Medical Center they have an office labeled "Dentist" I'm on a serious budget and was just thinking about booking DH and I in for just routine cleaning and X-rays...I am deathly afraid of dentist and would definitely pay the extra to go private if I needed anything done but just trying to see if a check up is do-able there :)

I saw Dr. Zareena today and she was great! Really caring, always checked in to see if I was doing ok. Pricey, yes, but I'd rather not take the chance anywhere else for now

Dan Lou, good to hear you had such a positive experience too. Salwa is far closer for us but I detest the roadworks, the driving scares the *bleep* out of me ... Maple, here's a link to their website. Dr Fady is based in Salam Tower http://www.qatardental.net/contact.html

Just to report back. I think Dr Zareena may well rival the good Dr Fady!! I have a fairly annoying gag reflex and Dr Zareena was so patient and was explaining exactly what she was going to do and how long it would take and checked on me constantly. She worked as quick as she could and printed out a plan of what I needed. One of my fillings was suspected to be a root canal so she included the prices so I could see what I was up against (yay today it proved to be okay for a filling!). She was also great with my two children, coming down to their level and was very sweet and gentle. I highly recommend her! All in all a great experience as the office is clean and cheerful, the waiting areas have tv's on showing all the dentistry techniques which was actually quite interesting. If you live over Salwa Road area it's a great alternative to Dr Fady. Just up from Glow.

GrayGirl, glad your DH got in, seems Dr Fady is indeed The Man! ExpatMum, thanks for clarifying. In any case I'll persist and check out the alternative on Friday and report back!

Update ... Well! DH walked out happy - minus a tooth - and it seems he's not such an expert with dental matters after all! Dr Fady did a thorough check and found it was a different tooth (which was cracked) that has been giving all the pain so he whipped it out. He also took 'photos' of DH's teeth and pointed out where there may be issues in the future and has given him a follow up appointment in a week. DH says he'd definitely recommend Dr Fady, he was most impressed.

I haven't. . .mainly because I have been burned by other clinics ([u'>not[/u'> Dr. Sarah's) where I've been pawned off on the new doctor or whatever. My theory is that if a doctor is always full then there's a reason for it so I stick to (and wait for) the good one :)

Hi ExpatMum, I appreciate you like Dr Fady but have you tried other dentists in the clinic? Iam actually going to the Salwa Road branch now that Dr Fady is unavailable and have been referred to Dr Zareen, can I ask if you're familiar with her? TIA.

If the reception desk tries to steer you to another doctor I would insist on Dr. Fady. He's known to be the best endodontist, so I wouldn't mess around with anyone else. As someone who has endured massive dental trauma (rock-climbing accident) I don't compromise one iota on my dental care. With respect to the holiday incident, it's possible that the reception desk just didn't have their head screwed on tightly that day. . .who knows. . . :)

DH recently saw Eric Chavaux for a long, long overdue check-up (knowing he needed work). EC was very good, reasonably priced and offered options for the treatment rather than offering only the most expensive. BTW, his English is perfect in case anyone worries about you both understanding each other. We had tried to get an appointment with Dr. Fady first and had to book two weeks ahead bc DH preferred to go on a Saturday. A week before the appt. the surgery called and postponed for two weeks bc Dr. Fady was going to be on holiday (didn't they know that when we booked?). It made the appointment too far in the future so we cancelled. However, on the day, they called to remind us of the appointment! At least they didn't try and charge us for it .;)

Dr Fady is booked out on Saturday so I'm taking the whole family to his (female) counterpart. If you can wait until then I'm happy to report back. Sorry her name escapes me right now....
