hi there - again
there are some vague posts about qatar academy
i know it has excellent facilites
but my question is
how does it compare
to Doha college
Doha british
parkhouse or sherborne

the reason i ask is that we are frm australia
and stressed about finidng a school for 6 and 7 year olds
however as is the case with everyone
the wait lists are crazy

if were to look at qatar academy - i have read they have long wait lists too - but jsut perosnal experinces of ppl from UK, US and Australia
if any have younger kids there...the support provided

and the mix
we looked into enrolling them at Newton Lagoon however the concerns are that with such a high population of Arab children the teachers main focus will be on communicating rather than educating
and i do not wish to be disrespectful however the boys have been in extension programs in their subjects in australia so to be sitting there in clas waiting for teachers to explain to the majority f class the instructions would be quite frustrating for them.

I apologise if i offend anyone but and very stressed out about schools right now

our other option is Newton British in Al Waab
so would someone pls provide their experience - this is would be greatly appreciated!

TIA :)

Mrsw :( sending supporting wishes your way Anyway email me it would be nice to have a chat We r looking at the same schools just like everyone in Doha or planning to move to Doha lol Picklz I did read your info re Sherborne issues previously We actually got a place in sherborne for our 7 year old But the torture of going thru the speed umps and congestion to end of town plus additional fees on top of allowance ... And waiting to to hear about the 6 year old not too Meanwhile Everyone - meaning not locals - that I have spoken to about newton Britsh in al waab and newton lagoon say they like it But of course they aren't in DC or DBD parkhouse etc But they are adamant completely diff from other newton schools So can only try Not like we have much of choice here Intially anyway Kitsune I would put my kids in acs in a heart beat but it's literally double company's llowance so that would make a huge impact on our income ... Which I am so stressed I would do but lol my husband thinks its cheaper to send us home ;) On the side-- could anyone recommend good doctors? I have recently had an extremely bad case of thyroid which was under treatment in Australia but need to follow up as I have bee. Sick for a few days now whether its just exhaustion or my thyroids I would much appreciate feedback on doctors! Many many thks eveyone! edited by Raahatd on 08/08/2012

Hi Raahatd - I know what you mean - my 6 year old has been in two schools in the UK and is only about to go into year 2 so this will be his third school. We'll see what we think of Loydence at the beginning of September. I have have read a lot of negative comments about Newton Schools on other forums so that has really put me off - I haven't approached them. We are on the waiting list for Dess, Sherborne and QIS and plan to apply to Doha college when their process opens again. DBS wouldn't even add us to their list it's so long. I've purposefully gone with the schools that are English cirriculum as we are from the UK. Compass seems very expensive and we don't get a separate eductaion allowance so having three at Compass would be very tough financially. Loydence is the only one that has given me a glimmer of hope! edited by mrsw2 on 05/08/2012

This doesnt help...but wanted to say...just in my experience..I have met more satisfied ACS parents lately..even though its fairly new but i think a lot of parents have been happy with it. I think schooling becomes such a difficult decision...and with limited school spots there is only so much you could do. My kids go to Sherborne...and weve had some nice teachers there which really has been such a blessing, but there are several other issues with the school...if I could I would probablly move to Doha College..

Hi Mrsw2 its very stressful this whoe school business we actually need to set up a moms support group i think I have gone to see Loydence Academy and it is a nice school the al azizya and yes they correspond better than other schoos who r stretched to the max however it is mainly arab students - not sure if the younger classes will have a bigger mix as ppl struggle to find schools again my cocnern is per below... and the biggest thing for me i cant chg my childrens school yet again (as ppl do here once a place comes available) for the 4th time in such a short life of their school - i have had to chg 3 times for my 7 year old...in australia due to bullying and lack of stimulation and finally did find the prfect school in Jan - but life takes u where it takes u yet this school issue seems to be a never ending nightmare for me will keep u posted any advice from others much appreciated...

Hi - I'm not going to be any help at all as we are not in Doha yet - we arrive this month from the UK. We have a 6 year old and two younger ones that are not yet school age and and most of the waiting lists we have applied for are closed (DBS) or very long (at least 18 months - DESS). I just wondered if you had looked at Loydence Academy? We are going to look at that when we arrive. I have had excellent communication form their head teacher at the Al Azzizya branch (sorry if that's not spelled right) and I know that really doesn't mean we'll like the school or that we'll get a place but it did give me a bit of hope. Equally, if you ahve looked at it and discounted it, I'd be interested to know why.
