I am desperately looking for schools for my two children...one for Year 2 and one for FS2.

Does anyone know of any British curriculum schools which may have openings? We are relocating from Dubai at the end of October and so far I have not come up with any thing!

Please help!

Marvel I will go chk them out Tomo Your kids r in grade 2 and 4? They r down the road from me so maybe better than me driving 40 min to a school I feel quite stressed about.. And then maybe org after school activities -- someone needs to do something fast about this school chaos It's getting beyond a joke! Yes mine will be in yr 2 and 4. I happen to stumble on them, when I was doing many internet research and it seems everything is starting to fall into place (fingers crossed!!) as we will also be living very nearby. I WAS waiting to hear from BNS on tests for next week, but not sure I'll bother now as the school doesnt sound great :(

Didn't like school classes at all - grotty yukky dirty carpets and no light. Nothing put up on walls by teachers .. Technically schools are not supposed to be putting things up on the walls of the classrooms per Civil Defense regulations. Things on the walls are considered a fire hazard, and there is a certain percentage that is allowed but it is quite low.

Update: No places in year 2 in NBS, having applied a week ago and told not a problem, I rang today to enquire about the test and the school asked whether I would like my daughter to take the test and then be added to the waiting list!!!! Poor communication, no wonder its a transition school. Going for private tuition services - no hassle, lovely people and available - life slowly becoming liveable (Just!) edited by marvelteam on 10/09/2012

oh my goodness!!!! that is awful!!!! what do you have to do to get your kids into school in Doha!!!????? Our problem is that we aren't even in doha yet (we are in dubai) and even if we put money down to try and secure a place I think that the places would be given to someone already there. I feel sick thinking about what we are going to do :(

Don't Worry MissFortune, you are not the only one that they told that year 2 was full. I applied for the spaces in April and was told to come July before Ramadan to do tests. When I got there i was told that it would have to be done in the last week of August i have been calling ever since and only been getting the run a round. I went to see them this week and was told that year 2 was full and because i applied for two spaces yr2 and yr6. I was told only one space left for yr 6 but i have to wait on this coming week to get a date to do the entrance test. Feeling so fustrated i called Loydence across the road and was told that there was space for yr 2 I hurriedly went there with all documents and my two boys in tow. When i went to the receptionist she asked me if i was the person applying and if it was for "THOSE" boys. My neighbour (who is of a much much clearer complexion than me) was with me so i thought nothing of it and answered yes, then she said "in that case there is no space for year 2." I had my neighbour call the school when we got down the road and the receptionist told her that there was one space for yr 2. So don't feel bad MissFortune at least you are not being judged by the colour of your skin which unfortunately I have been getting for a week straight at most of the schools. Wait on this coming week and see what unfolds.

I have just applied to British Newton School which have spaces available for year 2 and 4. We are waiting on our test sometime in the next week. not our first choice of school and still waiting on places for these but having read some of the latest reviews, it seems the BNS have made great progress.

Have you tried the Canadian School? They have priority for the children of CNAQ parents but I believe they will accept other passport holders if there's room? It's worth trying.

Hi there - we visit Loydence later this week, so no place as yet. Also no place anywhere else at the moment like everyone else. ACS did say they ahd places for my 6 year old but as it's not a British curriculum school, I'm not very keen (although that's laregly based on my complete ignorance about their curriculum rather than anything else)

These are updates as of yesterday Good luck u guys and us too -- bumped into a lady with little boy in C4 yesterday was going to ask about lunch boxes and she asked which school my kids were going to ... Of course I said I had no idea... She just looked at me .. Touched my arm and said softly.. Oh u poor thing how horrible -- lol as if there had been a tragedy in the family That's what it's like though isnt it here.. Wait lists aside if anyone can give current opinions about Doha British school would really appreciate it..

Unless there has been a major change, ACS offers an American curriculum, in conjunction with IB programs (they are now a candidate for MYP and DP authorization from the IBO). They are a relative newcomer to Doha, but have quickly earned quite a positive reputation. If they are expanding their enrollments it is certainly worth a look!

ACS might have spaces too as they are opening more classes this year. They follow british curriculum for 3-5 yr olds, then PYP/MYP (international baccalaureate) for older kids.

We're on the waiting list for yr 2 for Sherborne and had an email to say they are looking at places again this week when all the staff are back, so who knows, we may be lucky or move further up the list

I have a friend who has children at Loydence and she/they are very happy. Don't get too worried - it always seems difficult getting children in when you aren't here but I know of very few people who have had to home school and even those have only had to home school for a month or two. People come and go pretty quickly and places open up at all the schools. Just put your name down at all of them and you'll start getting options. :) ETA - I think Sherbourne still has vacancies for next year - not sure what years but probably worth a call. edited by GinaM on 27/08/2012

we're in a similar position - our eldest is about to go into year 2 after the holidays. We are on more waiting lists that I ever thought possible. Have you looked into Loydence Academy. Their website isn't that inspiring but as well as the villa in the West Bay/Dafna area they ahve a school in Al Azzizzya. We may be able to get a place there for our eldest. If you want to ge in touch with them I can give you the head teacher's email address. I can't really tell you anything about the school as we don't arrive in Doha for another week or so - we haven't visited it yet, but so far I haven't read anything negative about it.
