Does anyone know how you go about getting a UK police clearance for change of sponsorship in Doha? I've not lived in the UK for over 5 years.

You can go onto the criminal records web site http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx and fill in a form. They do it for you & have different services. Doesn't cost that much around £30. My husband had to get a police cert for Doha in April. They are very helpful if you need to call. Good luck.

When I did mine a few years ago I just used my mother-in-law's address. I flled in the form I got from the nearest police station, put in £10.00 and waited. It may be more expensive now of course! I hadn't lived in the UK for a few years either but it didn't seem to matter. They just want to know that there are not court actions etc against you!

Lalala, I mean a police office in the UK. My husband I have both needed 'police clearance' since we arrived in Qatar - he only needed clearance locally (as Kitsune says, from the British embassy) whereas I need clearance from the police force back in Scotland. So 2 very different processes! Clear as mud, I know.....;)

you can get the police clearance form at the british embassy or you can download it off the internet. you need to fill it in, have it stamped at the british embassy and then send it off with a cheque (uk one) and it takes about a week for it to come back. hth

I'd suggest you contact your local police office then. They can send you the forms and advise you. Thats what I did when I got mine - took me 3 months in all from start to finish!

Thanks for the tip, will use that if necessary but would like to do it myself if poss because a) I travel back to the UK a lot so shouldn't be too difficult to sort posting docs etc and b) I'm from Yorkshrie and tight :)
