SG we've missed you! Are you still in Dubai? Yes rumour is Hamad/NDIA will open to budget airlines in April... And they've even started on the Lusail Expressway (ie digging up from Arch R/a to Lagoona!!)
There currently is not a taxi stand there -- but I'm sure that once everything else opens up at Festival City (whenever that will be) they will have one. I went today around 3 and it was not busy at all. When I checked out I didn't even have to wait in a line -- walked right up to the checkout. Yay!
Now... if only I had a nice big truck to have transported everything that I would have liked to have bought. (I'm pretty sure they probably have delivery, but as my husband wasn't with me I decided that I probably shouldn't buy the bookcase that I wanted ... or the dishes ... or the .... yep, the list could go on and on!)
Despite there not being a taxi stand, I did manage to get a taxi outside as it was dropping someone else off.
We went yesterday, did lotsss of shopping :D but we should be back again soon for more haha :$ it was quite crowded but manageable! :) staff were helpful but one silly mistake from a cashier cost us an hour of waiting :\
Yes, I must second that about the staff, they are fantastic.
DebK - maybe if you give Ikea a call they might be able to tell you if they have a taxi rank 6688 9428

I was there this morning too, didn't see any taxis but maybe they have a stand inside rather than the outdoor parking?
It was very busy this morning but manageable. The staff is excellent.
Thanks, kimmc3. I don't actually plan to go until maybe next week or the beginning of April but as I don't have my own vehicle it's always good to know if I'm going to have to phone a driver or if I can just get a taxi from where I'm at.
Had no plans of going but DH suggested we go over for a quick look (we live close by). Went at around 8pm and it was really busy. The parking was full so we had to go up ahead into the huge open area in the back and park. Guess they were expecting the crowd as the area was well lit and a way made for us to walk to the entrance. Very crowded inside the store and it took a good 20 minutes at check out. There was plenty of friendly and helpful staff. Could not make it to the restaurant but maybe heading back soon enough as mother in law wants to get some stuff!!
I braved it. Went around 2:30 and parked in the basement level which was pretty much empty, as the outside and main level parking was full. Just took the escalator up, only 4 other people on their with me. Then shopped my little heart out. It was sensory overload, I wanted everything! But I didn't find it any busier than any other Ikea I've been to. No stampede of pushy patrons, I was able to browse in peace. Like Gail mentioned, the staff were knowledgeable with excellent English speaking skills. Stood in line at the checkout for all of 10 minutes then was on my way. I'm already flipping through the catalog of what to buy next. ;)
I am just back from ikea. Got there for 11am, outdoor car park was less than half full & there were loads of guys directing the traffic. Was told that a Sheikh was visiting & therefore the opening was delayed til 12noon. We were all kept waiting in the undercover car park where they had seats & were giving out free refreshments.
Think I was inside by 11.45am, first bit felt crowded as everyone was being funnelled in the same way but it did thin out & the marketplace did not feel busy at all.
Great stock, including quantities & prices seemed similar to UK ikea.
Car park was full by the time I left.
As at home I would avoid it at weekends but don't think the anticipated opening day chaos has happened. There were staff at every turn & they were v helpful.
