Scottishzimbo. My two children will be starting DBS in September (yr 4 and yr 8). Did you manage to decide what accommodation u will be staying in permanently...?? Would love to meet up, especially since we have kids entering the same yr group... Feel free to Mail me at respetter (at) hotmail (dot) com.....
Congrats scottishzimbo. Were you in Building 4s lobby today at about 11:35AM? I saw two children that are new to our building and was wondering if it was you. I must say that you are really fortunate to get a place so quickley for DBS. My older son has been on the waiting list for more than a year for DBS. We started waiting on Grade 6 and now we are waiting on Grade 7. So consider yourself really really lucky.

Well I'm delighted to say our dilemma is solved as both girls have now been offered a place at DBS. I'd just like to say to those of you trying to get kids into schools... It all seems so daunting, but places are obviously not quite as short as people make out, judging by the fact my older daughter was offered a place at 3 different schools. I think part of the problem is that everyone has to hedge their bets, applying to several schools, which causes long waiting lists at all the schools. As places are taken up, spaces open up on other waiting lists as people had their names down at three or more schools.
There is a huge volume of traffic and both Sherborne and DC West Bay are very far from Ain Khaled. Should you wish to take places at either of the said schools then i would seriously reconsider the area that you choose to live in. You will be spending hours driving as well as pulling out your hair and seriously hating Qatar due to the time you will be spending in your car!!!
You could consider living near Landmark or Gharaffa for easy access to Sherborne. There are plenty of decent compounds at reasonable prices in that area. For DC West Bay you may want to consider West Bay, West Bay Lagoon, The Pearl as well as the Landmark, Al Markiya and Gharaffa area.
I live in West Bay Lagoon with a child in Sherborne and my school run is 30 mins each way! Unfortunately it is a fact of life here that there is very little joy in school runs so the closer you can live to the school the easier your life will be. Distances may look close on the maps but the time spent due to the volume of traffic makes for a very long journey.
Hope this may be of some help.
It is all true!
I live in WB Lagoon and drive to Ain Khaled compound once a week on Saturday morning for private lessons of my son. It takes me 35 mins on the EMPTY road. Just afraid to imagine what it could be during the week.
It is true that in Garafa there is a lot of new villas at the reasonable price.

I have two daughters, age 8 and 10. My elder daughter has been offered a place at DC West Bay, and at Sherborne. My younger daughter has passed the assessment to Sherborne, but they don't have room for her yet. She hasn't done an assessment to DC yet, as it was a written test, and we were still in Scotland at the time.
We are staying in Holiday Villa on C-Ring road, but have applied to move to Ain Khalid (may or may not get to move though).
So which school do we accept... DC West Bay, or Sherborne? We have to decide by next week.
If we choose DC, who knows whether my younger daughter will get into the same school, and even if she does, my older daughter will only be there for a year, and will then need to move to high school.
If we choose Sherborne, hopefully it is just a matter of time before younger daughter gets in too, but it is very far from Holiday Villa and Ain Khalid. Is Sherborne as good as DC?
