Hello I'm travelling very shortly (within the next 4 weeks) my husband has been out since march I will be travelling with our 15 month old! We are living in the Beverly Hills in west bay so will also be in the same situation with meeting new people, I also spend a lot of time on forums reading endless replays and posts and somehow manage to make that seem even more daunting!

Hi Parkclark, Thank you so much for your reply. I will be travelling alone which is exciting but nerve wrecking at the same time. Thanks for the info below. I spend most of my days trawling through the internet/forums looking for advice but its also nice to hear from others out there too (appreciate your reply)

Hi sleigh1985: Not sure where you are travelling from but just organize yourself with information on the airports you will be travelling through, or transferring in. There is always someone at the airports to ask but most have good signage. Make sure you pack your phone/computer chargers to keep your items charged or some airports will not let you bring them through (new security directives). It is not hard to meet other expats here in Doha. If you will be working here you will be busy during the day so there is a Professional Business Woman's group that meets once or twice a month in the evening. If you are coming with a partner & not working then there is the TLG-Tuesday ladies group - meets every other Tues at Radisson Blu Hotel, AWA- American Women's Association - meets once monthly & has coffee mornings in several places around town. (see website). There is the coffee morning at Jones the Grocer at The Gate Mall in West Bay area Sun @ 10 am. If you have children you can meet people through the schools or Doha Mom's group. Through these groups you can usually find someone to hang out with or find an activity you will enjoy. Now that we are having EID places will re-open for normal hours & it will be easier to meet others. Things should be in full swing about the time you arrive here in a few months. Enjoy the trip & be prepared for the heat even in Sept or Oct. Cheers & Welcome to Doha!

hi everyone. I am moving to Doha in the next few months and wondered if anyone had an advice/tips. I am travelling over alone which in itself is quite daunting but exciting. How easy do you find it to make friends (my main worry)

I enjoyed the two coffee mornings at JTG and Landmark this week - thank you ladies. As I said, if there are any weekend meet ups, suitable for people who work, please let me know, thanks from Charlotte.

I'm sure lots of ladies will be able to give you some more ideas soon- weekends are a bit sketchy but there a lot of groups on facebook if you search i.e Doha meet up etc. weekdays are a bit easier to find meetings and you might want to start with AWA who hold newcomer meetings on Thursdays at 10 am in starbucks landmark mall and somewhere else that I'm not sure of but might be on the website- this is apparently a very friendly group and very welcoming- also Jones the grocers on Sundays at 10am is full of ladies and no you don't have to be a wife !! There is also the Tuesday ladies group who have a website with all the dates they meet but for all us working ladies it is a bit more difficult to find weekend meet ups to socialise a bit out of the company !

Hi Alli, Welcome to Doha! My situation is that I've been in Doha for 6 weeks and I'm a teacher, meaning I can only make socials on weekends or in the holidays. I'm struggling to find any! I'd really like to meet new people and experience more of what Doha has to offer. If anyone knows of weekend coffee mornings or similar, I'd appreciate the help. X
