The Ultimate 2017 Oman Bucket List

Oman has alot to offer and taking advantage of it is a must. From zip lining to sinkholes, here's some great adventures to tackle.

The Ultimate 2017 Oman Bucket List

Oman is such a beautiful country with so much to do. If you’ve ever thought it was a boring place, think again. This year, take it upon yourself not to stick to your routine in the city and go out and explore!

Here are some of adventures you can tackle.

1. Go Zip-lining

Did you know that you could zip-line in the Al Hoota Cave? Yes, that’s right! They’ve done major renovations recently and have started to add some extreme sports, this being one of them. The cave system is one of Oman’s natural wonders and you get to experience it in a new way. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, you won’t be disappointed.

2. Explore the underground

Speaking of Al Hoota, there are many amazing caves around the country. Visiting a cave is definitely a unique experience. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, Oman is home to the second largest underground chamber in the world, Majlis al Jinn. Reaching the opening requires strenuous physical effort, as you will have to climb over 1000 metres to one of the three natural entrances and then you descend by ropes to the chamber covering over 15 acres. The cave is considered a repository of natural life treasures.

3. Go to the Opera

If you’re in the mood for a classy night, The Muscat Royal Opera House is definitely the place to be. You can get all dressed up and enjoy a class act show. The architecture and décor alone are spectacular.

4. Visit a Wadi

You probably hear this one a lot, but it’s a must. The nature is breathtaking and some of the waterfalls are a sight to behold. Some of them allow for adrenaline-pumping cliff diving, such as Wadi Shab. You can take a dive of 90ft into the water! It’s definitely not for the faint-hearted and we recommended extreme caution and some research before attempting it.

5.  Swim in a sinkhole

The Bimmah Sinkhole is a top destination for tourists and justifiably so! The crystal clear water is enough to leave you speechless. The sinkhole covers 50m by 70m wide and approximately 20m deep. To protect and preserve it, the Omani government developed a park around it, along with a stairway leading down to the water.

6. Have a Staycation

There are some amazing hotels around the country that will surely give you the vacation feel. Anantara Jabal Al Akhdar up in the mountains is one of the favourites! Treat yourself and splurge a little.

7. Climb a mountain

There are no shortage of mountains here. Named the Grand Canyon of the Middle East, Jebel Shams offers some spectacular views. Looking over the peaks of Hajar, into the canyon and far into the distance at sunset is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Its highest point stands at 3009 m (9872 ft) high in its North Summit. Its second summit, the South Summit, is accessible for trekking via the W4 Trail.

8. Go camping

Whether you prefer camping in the desert, in the mountains or on a sandy beach, there’s a spot for you. Sometimes you just need to take a break from the city and pampered lifestyle and enjoy some good old nature.

10. Immerse yourself in culture

If you haven’t played a tourist yet in your city, you’re missing out. Oman is full of cultural experiences that you shouldn’t miss out on. Visit the old souks, the grand mosque and the museums. You’re likely stuck in an office all week long, so take a break and enjoy.
