Here we take a look at the Oman Traffic Police and the rules and regulations for driving in Oman, the fines and points for offences and how to pay your fines online.

Online Oman Police Fine Checker
Did you know you can check any traffic fines you may have got in Oman on the Police website- saves any nasty surprises when you come to re-register your car.

Here is the link: www.rop.gov.om

You can check the status of your traffic file and see if you have any fines- you can also pay online too. It sometimes takes a few days for your fines to appear on the system, so if you have been issued a ticket for bad parking for example, check the site over a few days to wait for it to show up before you can pay it online.

The fine checker will only show fifty fines at a time, so if you have racked up more fines than that, you will have to pay off the first fifty before the next fifty will reflect.

  • Using mobile phone while driving: Up to OMR 300 with possibility of 10 days in jail.

Top tips to avoid Oman police fines:
1. Don't speed- It is quite easy to avoid getting fines really! Stick to the speed limits, even if there is a 10- 20 km leeway but don't rely on this. Some speed cameras are set at 1km above the speed limit. It is just not worth the risk, and the speed cameras are known to be sensitive in the Sultunate.

2. Park in the right place- If you park in an area that is not meant for parking, you shouldn't be surprised at getting a fine. Do not park in disabled zones or parking that is prohibited as the fines in these spots tend to be very high. If the parking is metered, then pay for it to avoid a fine.

3. Use your hands-free kit- If you really must answer the phone whilst drivingn use earphones or the car's hands-free system. If you use your handset and are holding it, you can get fined.

5. Never, ever jump a red light! Not only is it highly dangerous, it also carries severe penalties. If the traffic light is yellow, do not race to pass it. Be safe, slow down and stop. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
