Why would we think of making Pizza healthy? Why not just eat veggies instead?

Well, for one, veggies, served alone, are boring. Second: everything tastes better when served on top of a pizza.
Don’t get us wrong here. We love pizza in its natural, cheesy and doughy state, but a healthy lifestyle calls for some compromises. Pizza can be healthy and we can prove that.

Read on to find some simple and easy tweaks that can cut down the carb quotient on your pizza yet taste equally delicious.

1. Experiment with the crust

Ditch the traditional white flour crust. Instead, create your own crust with veggies and nutty flavours. Vegetables like eggplants, cauliflower, carrot can make for a yummy crust. You can also experiment with leftover brown rice or pita bread.  Stuffed crust — in any form – is a big NO.

2. Load up on the sauce

Pizza sauce is mainly made of tomatoes – a rich source of lycopene, low in calories and high in vitamins C, A, and potassium.

3. Switch the meat toppings

Hold the bacon, meatballs, sausages and pepperoni thoughts right there. Instead, opt for leaner options like shrimps, tuna or salmon to cut down a full day’s worth of calories.

4. Try low calorie cheese

Try experimenting with low calorie cheese options like goat cheese or tofu cheese; they taste just as good – if not better. And, of course, you can always use less cheese or go cheese-less on your pizza.

5. Fruit pizza – that’s a thing

Who says pizza has to be hot, spicy and cheesy. You can totally change the game by making an almond crust topped with berries and ricotta cheese, sounds yummy – right?

6. Cut Down the portion size

Cut Down the portion size

One slice of regular cheese and pepperoni pizza has somewhere between 250 to 400 calories, depending on the size of the slice and number of toppings. This means eating one slice a day is probably not as bad as monopolising the whole box. Solution – have pizza at parties where you can share or order a small pan instead of the regular one.
