An estimated 30% of food in the Gulf region goes to waste...
New food delivery and pick-up app, Platable, aims to reduce the food wastage issue by half by 2030, with their platform enabling UAE residents to purchase food, sweets, and drinks at up to 60% off the usual going price from their favourite F&B spots.
Rather than wasting food, the app promotes sustainability by working together with local restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and supermarkets to list their surplus items at a discount, while residents can enjoy fantastic deals on delicious Arabic, Indian, Italian, Asian, and other international dishes.
Platable (beta version) is available to download for iOS and on Google PlayStore, with the official launch expected sometime during Ramadan 2025.

In an interview with Khaleej Times, Platable's Co-Founder and CEO Salmaan Mohammed, said: "We built this platform or marketplace that lets F&B outlets list their surplus inventory which would otherwise go to waste and lets consumers buy at a discount. For example, a doughnut firm sees a waste of about 300-400 pieces every day. They list it on the platform and consumers can buy it at half the price from 9PM-11PM."

Currently, the Platable app has onboarded over 50 F&B brands in Dubai, and has plans to list restaurants from across the UAE and then the rest of the GCC region.
"The only option for F&B outlets was to throw surplus food, so they sell this food and generate more revenue and be sustainable at the same time," Mohammed told Khaleej Times, adding that customers will be able to access great food at a heavily discounted price.
How does 'Platable' work?
In the Platable app, restaurants create a surprise meal box of surplus food items and sell it on the app.
"For example, an outlet will sell a box of six doughnuts, but may not reveal what type of doughnuts the box contains. If it is a meal from a buffet restaurant, it will say non-veg meal, but will not disclose what items buyers get," he explained.
Customers can then see what meal boxes are being offered at certain times for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. Simply reserve that surprise box for pick-up for delivery at a specific timeslot, as "food is considered surplus only at a specific given time in the day of every restaurant."
"For example, if you want to pick up a box of doughnuts from an outlet and it closes at 11PM, they will give you a discounted rate from 9PM-11PM and you can reserve the box. The outlet knows that the customer will come and pick it up, so they will keep that box ready," added Mohammed.
