Face it, working women do a lot more than working men. Even for the ladies that do not work but are home makers, the day is packed with chores that go well into the night.

Powerful Food for Powerful WomenA woman must be strong at work and must be in check of her tone of voice, anger and emotion all the time otherwise she is called emotional or unstable, this may set her carreer advancement back. She comes home from work and has to do some cleaning and cooking, maybe help the children with the home work. I am not saying that her husband would be of no help but it is generally the woman that takes care of the household.

For anyone to be on top of their game they need to be healthy from the inside out. EW has compiled a list of foods that women should include in their diet to ensure top performance and optimum health.

Apples: There is a reason behind the old idiom, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” It happens to be true. Studies show that women who eat apples on a regular basis suffer from common ailments less frequently than women who are not in the habit of consuming the fruit.

Mushrooms: These little fungi pack some serious punch to cancer causing cells. Experts have found that consuming as little as one button mushroom everyday can decrease the risk of breast cancer significantly.

Dark Chocolate: The cocoa in chocolate is full of antioxidants. Furthermore dark suppresses the production of the stress hormone cortisol, thus leaving us ladies less frazzled and in control. Cortizol causes a temporary rise in blood pressure and consistently high levels (i.e. consistent stress) up your risk of depression, obesity and heart disease. All the more reason to eat a block of chocolate every day.

Lentils: Lentils are a fantastic food and should be consumed on a daily basis. They are low in calories and provide 30% of the daily iron needed by the body to function properly. Iron is important as it carries oxygen throughout the body in the hemoglobin and aids in immune function, cognitive development, temperature regulation, energy metabolism, and work performance. Thus people who are not iron deficient tend to perform better overall then those who suffer from deficiencies.

Parmesan Cheese: Ladies have this occasionally on pasta or in their rocket and parmesan salad working this cheese into the everyday diet can help prevent osteoporosis. Parmesan has 340mg of calcium per ounce, a much higher content than yoghurt, milk and other cheeses, which goes a long way to achieving 1000mg a day.
Sardines: They may look and smell a little odd but these little fish are surprisingly tasty, and healthy as well. Just three ounces of sardines contain a little more than the recommended daily allowance omega 3. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential as they help remove the bad cholesterol from the body and keep the blood vessels smooth and supple.

Women should try and incorporate as many of these foods into their diet to avoid stress, irritability and illness. There are no super humans but a healthy woman comes pretty close.
