Dubai Municipality removes 30 per cent tax on all alcohol sales

Dubai Municipality has announced a one-year trial period removing the 30% tax on all sales of alcoholic beverages, from January 1 until December 31 for 2023, reported Caterer Middle East.

This means that all Dubai restaurants, hotels, and bars serving alcohol will now pay 30% less than they have previously. Customers looking to purchase alcohol from dining spots and shops can expect to pay less moving forward as well, with licenced alcohol stores MMI and African and Eastern already confirming that they will be cutting the 30% tax from products on offer.

Alcohol licences are free in Dubai from January 1, 2023

To purchase liquor in Dubai, non-Muslim residents and tourists will need a valid alcohol licence, which will be free to obtain starting January 1, 2023. Previously, applicants had to pay AED 270 per year.

To apply for a liquor licence in Dubai, you will only need your Emirates ID.
