You know the saying ....mad dogs and englishmen go out in the midday sun .....well my mad dog is still basking in the sun at any opportunity. He can open the door himself and goes out and just lies in it ....crazy mad dog !

We have a paddling pool & I buy a bag of ice to throw in it - our dog loves it! He also goes to 'school' once a week at Doggie's Palace in Al Quoz (www.doggiespalace.com) & he loves that too. Reasonable price - being regulars we get a discount and a full day socialization session is 60Aed for a large dog. Only issue is that it's concrete but the staff are great and trainers are great too - try Allan if you're looking for any extra training - he's fantastic and our dog LOVES him! There's also the place in DIP that apparently has grass & indoor areas (can't remember their name but way too far for us to travel but a friend has tried them several times & lives up that way). Our boy also lies on the pavers in the midday sun too - just crazy! There are actually a few places not mentioned here but that's because we've never used them so won't recommend them. Other things are cool packs you can buy that go in between the dog's bed, iced water/cold water & of course, AC room with easy access (our converted maid's room as we don't have a maid). Good luck!

we've now got a paddling pool for our dog - she loves it. And I wet her down before walking her. We've also had a couple of doggy playdates in the morning - they have a good old run around in the garden and come inside to play when they're too hot - I shut the doors to the rest of the villa and let them trash the kitchen floor (sand and water) as it all mops away really easily. Here's a link to some great advise from Laura at Positive Paws on the 7Days website: [url=http://www.7daysindubai.com/Dogs-Dubai-Rising-Temperatures/story-16012068-detail/story.html'>link[/url'> Both Positive Paws and Paws Pet Planet are a great way for them to get some exercise and socialise off the lead.

Have a look at Positive Paws, Dubai. They have a hydrotherapy pool as well as play area for the dogs.

while it wont help their paws have you seen this coat for dogs http://www.dubaipetstore.com/Easidri-Cooling-Coat-for-Dogs-62-1334-470-p.aspx It doesnt say how long the dog is kept cool for but certainly something to think about if your dog wants to have some grass time (poop/wee) during the heat of the summer

here is a summer dog plan for Dubai that works for me. 1. walk at 05:30 - 06:00 as long as poosible 2. if possible at 10:00 very short just a wee/poo on a grass area followed by ball play in the house/living room for 30 minutes 3. around 15:00 repeat 2 if time with play if not without 4. around 21:00 walk as long as possible don't walk your dog in the midday sun. Always have a water/bowle bottle for dogs with you on the longer walks. test with your bare feet if the ground is too hot or if it hurts. If it hurts you it will hurt your dog so avoid asphalt and just go on a green spot. Playtime only inside in summer, which is not perfect but frankly in europe its with all the salt in winter the same isn't it? If you have the money bring your dog at least once a week (or more) to a dorg play park such as for example pet paws planet in Green Community they are opened on weekends as well if you cant do weekdays. There they can play inside, with AC, and other dogs. I know there are more such centers existing but unfortunatelly my looney fails the assessment as she is aggressive to others so for us it's living room ball games only :( There is a wax kind of thing existsing which apparently protects paws agains heat/ cold etc ... never tried it as the above works for us. you find it on amazon and i belive homelypets sells it as well in their onlineshop. edited by Nyranee on 29/05/2012

My 2 get walked at the crack of dawn too... but all through the day they are in and out, they seem to be used to it and learn to live with it. Just like us ;)

I'll try that, so that means no dog parks??? :( Sadly no dog parks, my old boy died last December but from May to October I always got up at 5.15am to walk him, it's the price you pay for having a doggy friend here.

He can't be outside for much of the day. Stand outside barefoot. If it's too hot for your feet, it's too hot for his. Unfortunately the best we can do for our dogs is try and walk them before sunrise and after sunset.

It will not be HOT, it will be absolutely BOILING. You could fill a paddling pool with cool water and put it in the garden, so that he can run around and then jump in it..

It is getting too hot and my dog hates to go out now and I know it will just get hotter from now on. Is there any place I can take him so he can be active??? He sleeps all the time and I wish I could take him somewhere fun to play and run around. This is my first summer here so I heard it is going to be HOT, what do you do with your dogs???
