Are you sure that the bank has taken out action regarding your missed payment? It would be very unusual for them to do so after just one month of payment not being paid. Try setting up a meeting to discuss your options with them - most banks do not want to go through court unless the outstanding amount is huge and are mostly amenable to discussing payment plans. It's very odd that they are demanding total repayment after just a month missing - or is this not the actual case? You haven't stated if you are still employed or not? You should also discuss your options with your HR representative as this is clearly a compassionate case and they may be able to help you.

Sorry for what situation you are in. To have a travel ban to come in effect, the lender must take legal action and receive such a ban for a person. I haven't been in such a situation, but expect, if banks file a case, you should be notified for the same. Have you? Sometime bank recovery guys say what is possible (not necessarily in place already). So get that certainty. No, it is not advisable to leave country and default. What is the value of outstanding loan? Some time banks mutually negotiate to close at discounted amount. You need to know facts from assumptions. As long as banks receive payment on time and you have valid residency, your physical presence in UAE, is immaterial. Can you ensure that, in case you have no travel ban and you leave the country to be with your family. Are you employed at presently? Do you have any assets that you could encash? Hope this works out.

You poor thing. Do you have any assets here you could sell? I would sell everything. Have you contacted adar Al Ber society? How long is left on your lease? If walking out means a 2 mth paymeny but you get 3 or more months rent back woulf that be near enough to clear your debt? Then buy a cheap one way tocket home and stay with friends unril you can leave. Do you have any friends here who could loan you the money?

Hi, I feel that you need to get a realistic picture of where you are with the loan and make sure you are communicating and cooperating with the bank in order that in future they will 'trust' you and remove the travel ban. You must have missed more than just last month's repayment if you already have a travel ban imposed, as lenders do offer some leeway and it takes times to take legal action. At this stage it will do you no favours if you don't meet with the lender and agree a new payment plan. But you have to convince them you will pay it back, not go in there with a story of desparation or indicating you have no money or plan. Use your unfortunate curcumstance to explain why you had a blip with repayments, but act like you're back on board, perhaps have a new job/income consulting in the UK which requires a short trip...and job you can get at short notice in the UAE. I'm sorry you are in such a predicament...you will find a way to work things out, but don't hide from them. Once you have agreed a payment plan you should be able to travel once you have made the first one/few installments. x

Sorry to hear of your situation, understandably you will just want to get home given the circumstances. Are you working at the moment? Just wondering why you missed the last payment and if you have any income to keep making future payments? Do you have any assets here that you could sell towards paying off the debt?

Hello fellow ladies of Dubai I hope you can be more useful than Google, the Embassy or anyone I have spoken to, to date! Here goes my situation and story...... I came to Dubai 18 months ago with the hope of staying here and making it my home. I changed jobs around 6 months ago. Whilst my new Visa was in process with the new employers I unfortunately had a cyst on my ovary and was landed with a huge medical bill and 2 months off work and it left me in a mess. (Whilst a Visa is in process the work place cannot provide medical insurance). Unfortunately, I got some devastating news from home last week that my father has stage 4 cancer and the specialist has said he has only months not years to live. I cannot function at all all i want to do is be at home and spend what little time I have left with my father. I went to the British Embassy Thursday as I missed a payment on my loan last month and the bank are now taking legal action and I cannot leave the country unless I pay my money in full. Failure to do so I am looking at imprisonment. You will no doubt be aware of the Law in the UAE when it comes to payment of debt. I have no where to turn and am in a complete mess. I am a single woman of 27 years old. There are no organisations or anything here in Dubai to help well so it seems as I have contacted everyone. The usual question would be cant family members help me..... unfortunately not. My mother is disabled now and hasnt worked for 5 years and my sister is a single parent. I have one uncle who is now retired and has no assets. I have tried everything. All I want to do is get back to the UK. to spend what little time I have left with dad. If you can give me any advice I would be so grateful. I thank you for taking time to read this email. I know I am a complete stranger but I am just praying someone out there will understand the stress and my situation I am going through. Everyday that goes by is a day less with my father. Literally any advice I would be so grateful!
