Each year, millions around the world make one common new year's resolution, and that is to lose/gain weight, eating healthy, stick to good diets, and live a healthier lifestyle. However, some resolutions are easier said than done (we’ve all been there, done that!).

Indulging more in healthy food, and healthy eating habits can be a mission, especially when you live in a place like Dubai, where burger shops and food trucks are almost on every corner.

2018 can be different, if we understand why our new year’s resolutions fall so quickly, and why is it so difficult to stick to a healthy lifestyle. And by setting some more specific, attainable goals in mind, we can, for a change, get closer to our resolutions.

To help your new year’s resolutions become more than just social media posts, here are some simple changes you can easily implement to your daily life to become healthier.

1. Start your day with a protein-packed breakfast

We can never applaud enough for how important is breakfast. And we’re sure you’ve heard ‘don’t skip breakfast’ over and over, but you still miss it. Why? Commuting can be frustrating, we get it. But that doesn’t mean you can’t prepare your meals beforehand.

Studies have shown that having a rich-in-protein breakfast helps you eat less throughout the day. Try to include foods like Greek yogurt, eggs, vegetable, and whole-wheat bread in your breakfast.

2. Drink more water every day

Our advice to remember drinking water is always keep a bottle of water within hand. If not possible, set a reminder every half an hour. Staying hydrated and drinking a lot of water help control the weight. Studies showed that drinking two cups of water right before every meal reduces calories consumption by 75 to 90 calorie. Sipping vegetable broth or tea with lemon can also serve the same purpose.

3. Serve your food on smaller plates

Serve yourself smaller plates. As researchers explained that most people eat around 90% of their plates. So if you change from a 9-inch plate to 8-inch, you’ll eat less.

4. Embrace the right kind of snacking

Snacks are very important, however, you do need to know what to eat, when, and how big should the portion be. Never have your snack straight from the package or bag, and rather always serve your snacks in a plate to avoid mindless-munching.

5. Cut sugar out of your diet

Once and for all! It’ll only take not more than 20 days to get used to coffee/tea without sugar. Start today, and don’t leave out those sugar-sweetened beverages. Most people associate sugar beverages with only sodas, but they include sweetened coffee, tea, energy drinks, some juices, and more.

Sugary drinks have been linked to an increased risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and even an early death.
