8. Okonomiyaki pancakes

Ideal for those who prefer who want to dig their fork into a savoury pancake, try the Japanese okonomiyaki hotcake.
Translated to "grilled as you like it", these stacks are made from a typical flour and egg base mixed with shredded potato, cabbage, soy, ginger, and your pick of meat/proteins. You pretty much have free reign on toppings, such as honey sauce, mayonnaise, or spring onions.
7. Sweet crêpes

Originally from France, these large, thin pancakes are a sweet way to celebrate the occasion! Crepes are made by swirling a thin layer of the batter in an oiled pan. The pan must be titled in a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly, then flip to the other side.
Often best served with chocolate, strawberries, chopped bananas, maple syrup, honey, or whipped cream.
6. Ice cream pancakes

It might be Shrove Tuesday, but that need not limit you to one type of dessert. Try adding a scoop of your favourite ice cream on top of a steaming, fresh stack of pancakes and some pieces of fruit.

A South Indian classic, dosa pancakes are wafer-like, savoury, vegan dishes that are made using fermented rice and lentil batter. They are also often stuffed with a spicy potato curry - for those seeking a savoury pancake with a hot kick this Shrove Tuesday, don't miss out on this one!
If you're not keen on a heavy pancake, try the Sri Lankan version of these hoppers, made with coconut milk and rice flour, then stuffed with flavourful sambol, chutney, or fried chicken.
