We’re probably going to get a lot of flak after this but hey, not all of us picture ourselves getting married in a white gown.
If you think for a moment, even fairy-tale princesses get to choose their own wedding dress colours, Belle wears yellow and Ariel wears Aqua — so why should we concur to the rules?
Here are 5 perfectly reasonable excuses to break the white gown rule on your big day.
1. It doesn’t compliment your complexion
There is a reason nobody came up with the term LWD (little white dress). The colour white isn’t as universal as black. It doesn’t suit every skin tone and makes your complexion look darker in comparison. If you’re pale, have discoloration or pigmentation — white would only highlight the flaws.
Of course, you can cover it all up with makeup but why compromise when you have such vibrant colours to choose from?

2. It doesn’t represent your personality
Not all of us identify as ethereal beings or hallowed angels. Some of us are fierce, some girly and some metal heads so why hide your personality? Opt for metallic, choose floral and invest in a red hot gown to make your day even more memorable. At least you can say you did it your way.

3. You’re a messy girl
Your wedding dress is going to cost you a fortune. Unless you’re absolutely sure you can keep it pristine and stain free – we suggest you stay away from anything white. Spilt food, messed up makeup, food leftovers - the disaster list is endless.

4. It doesn't go with your wedding theme
Theme weddings are a lot more fun than your regular stateroom and church affairs. But wearing a white tulle gown won’t cut it. If you’re throwing a theme wedding then go all out — dress like your favourite character.

5. You're skipping wearing a gown altogether
It may sound weird but a lot of people are not comfortable in gowns. They opt for more comfortable yet equally chic styles like jumpsuits and mini dresses. Plus, you're more likely to wear these outfits again to a formal event than your white wedding gown.
