Things No One Tells You About Getting Married

When Charles Dickens said, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" we are pretty sure he was referring to the process of planning a wedding.

Wedding planning, as joyous as it is, can be incredibly stressful. We assure you at least one thing will go wrong (and that's OKAY). Here are 8 things that no one tells you about getting married, but we will!

1. There is going to be at least one random thing that will throw you into full bridezilla mode

No matter how well-planned your wedding is, there is going to be at least one random thing that will throw you into crazy bridezilla mode. And there is nothing you can do about it. So, relax and enjoy all of it - even the anger outbursts.

2. DIY does not mean cheap

Yeah, all those DIY wedding favours look great on Pinterest, but they require a lot more time, effort and money than buying favours off the rack.

3. There are SO many hidden costs at every step

Examples: your dress only includes your dress, you have to pay for the tailoring, the caterers only quote you an amount for the food - cutlery, dinnerware, glassware, servers are all ad-ons. The list is endless and so are the costs associated with a wedding.

4. Don't rely on family/friends as vendors/planners

Yes, your aunt may have thrown you the BEST birthday party when you were a teenager, but a wedding a whole different ballgame. Same goes for vendors. Hire a professional.

5. Never pay vendors ON the day of the wedding

Stipulate the terms of payment in your contract from day 1. Pay the vendors only after the wedding is over upon completion of the agreed terms.

6. Your dream wedding dress maybe out of your range

It is an unwritten rule - out of the many unexpected splurges that will happen during the wedding planning process, your dress will perhaps be the biggest.

7. There will be people close to you who won't show up

Yes, it's sad. Yes, it happens. Even if you give them plenty of notice, there will be someone who won't be able to make it because of health reasons or prior commitments.

8. You are going to second guess all of it...but that's OKAY

You are going to lose your mind. You are going to second guess all of it. For a brief moment, you will even think about running away - all these feelings are completely normal.

So enjoy the planning, the preparation, the freakouts, the meltdowns and everything that comes with being a bride!
