We’re still swooning over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sweet engagement portraits that were released by Kensington Palace last week.
As we, especially, fell in love with Meghan Markle’s full-length Ralph & Russo haute couture fall 2017 dress, which featured in two of the engagement photographs taken by Alexi Lubomirski. Whilst Prince Harry donned a classic navy suit, Markle chose to wear the lavish black gown with a sheer, gold embellished top half and a feathered skirt which fell elegantly to the floor.
However, Meghan Markle has been put under scrutiny for choosing the design by British luxury fashion house Ralph & Russo, as it cost £56,000 (AED 275,000) and is reported to be privately purchased (it wasn't a royal freebie).
Meghan Markle was named the 4th most influential fashion person of the year, in Lyst’s The 2017 Fashion Roundup, beating Kate Middleton by one place. Which means Meghan’s outfits will be watched, imitated and analysed more than ever, as her wardrobe now stands in the public spotlight.
As a future royal, Meghan Markle’s sheer top in her engagement gown and exposed legs during her engagement interview, have already challenged traditional royal protocol. Yet, the majority of the public have praised Meghan’s bold choices and her sense of style, as they believe it is refreshing for a royal.
However, Markle’s extravagant £56,000 dress has caused some controversy, as Meghan will have to get used to the criticism that comes with her new royal title.
Whether you agree with the expensive outfit choice or not, Meghan Markle is a successful actress in her own right, who has earned her own money. And she looked fabulous!
