Naomi Campbell presented a tribute to Azzedine Alaïa during the Fashion Awards 2017, in London’s Royal Albert Hall. Campbell has previously described Alaïa as a father figure, as she proudly honoured the Tunisian couturier designer’s work, alongside Linda Spierings, Farida Khelfa, Veronica Webb, Stephanie Seymour, Yasmin Le Bon Imaan Hammam and more.

Naomi Campbell wore a dress from Azzedine Alaïa’s Fall 2017 Couture collection at the Fashion Awards and started the hashtag #tributetopapa, as the world-leading designer was remembered by the fashion industry and his many supportive followers. Alaïa, who passed away last month, received a posthumous award which celebrated his achievements in the fashion industry, in particular his ground-breaking efforts in haute couture.

The British Fashion Awards have only ever announced two posthumous awards, since it launched in 1989. As Azzedine Alaïa will now sit alongside the likes of Lee Alexander McQueen, who was recognised for his Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design in 2010.

Naomi Campbell and Co. were honoured to announce and receive the award, on behalf of their beloved Azzedine Alaïa, as his achievements within fashion were deservedly remembered last night and beyond.
