While everyone is raving about the magnificent CGI effects in the newly released trailer of Disney's live-action movie, Beauty and the Beast – we want to talk about Belle’s iconic yellow dress!

Costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the gown is made of silk with a satin finish, "so it's less transparent than other organza"; having screen-tested a wide array of yellow tones and fabrics to find the perfect combination.

Just like Belle, the iconic gown has been modernised to suit Belle's feminist reinvention as an active character in her own story. “There is a cage under some parts of it but mainly it’s layers of organza that just give it a lift, for it to have lightness” as for Emma Watson, it was important that the dress was light and that it had a lot of movement.

Unlike Cinderella, she did not want a dress that was corseted or that would impede her in any way.
