The president of the US, Donald Trump, has been distracting the internet with his EXTRA long ties. It is an unspoken rule that a tie should reach right around the buckle for it to look right. But Donald Trump is not a man who follows rules. Not even when it comes to fashion.
Exhibit A - Mr. Trump at the inauguration last week.

The issue here is Trump's way of tying his tie. The shorter tail of the tie is so much shorter than the longer tail that it does not fit into the little loop on the back of a tie. So he TAPES it! Don't believe us? See it for yourself.

This wasn't always the case. Even until the late 80s Trump's tie length was what it should be.

So what changed over the years? His weight! Last year, Trump produced a report from his doctor that at 6'3 and 236 lbs puts him in the overweight category according to the Body Mass Index.
Wearing a short tie over a bulging tummy is the best way to highlight the bulge, which is probably why he wears his ties extra long. Can someone please tell him this is not a good look? Thanks.
