There's a small kiosk inside the Arabian Ranches town center in the main entrance area (right in front of Le Marche) that sells a few pieces - just saw them yesterday.

Chiva Som in Thailand is fantastic. It's a combination of health retreat, spa and beach and has full medical professionals who set up and cater your stay. Various packages based on what you want to do - relax, detox, etc. i think Emirates holidays can book you (I remember seeing it in their brochures) and check out the Chiva Som website on line - always rated as top in the world by Conde Naste Traveller. (I've been wanting to go for 3 years but out of my budget at the moment!) . Best of luck!

We used a company called Creative Closets and they were great (a bit on the expensive side but worth it). They will give you a quote first and you can go to their showroom to just take a look at what they offer. It's really good quality German product and they come and do all the measurements and then you go to the showroom and you pick the details (handles, railing colors, size of each drawer, if you want a jewelry drawer, tie rack, shoe racks, etc.) worth the money! They are located somewhere near Capitol Hotel (they will give you directions!). Number is 04-3988271 o4 04-3988270. Best of luck!

If you want view of Burj Khalifa and fountains - either Madeleine (French restaraunt in Dubai Mall serves shisha after 4pm) or Abdelwahab (lebanese restaraunt) in Souk al Bahr.

Hi. Over the weekend I saw a great range in The Toy Store in Mall of the Emirates. It's a really large toy shop in between the movie theater and the ski Dubai area.

I've also seen a stand- alone stall in Souk Madinat Jumeirah that sells all types of natural soaps for different skin conditions, one of which is a soap from the Dead Sea. It's on the same aisle that has the Indian restaraunt called "Ushna".

Hi! I've had a few wallstickers, canvas and artwork done by a woman who is very professional and creative and she does all kinds of artwork, canvasses, etc would be worth a call - she was much more reasonable than all the other quotes I got. She can also do lots of different themes -she's done a 'football/soccer' wall for her son. Her number is zero five zero 3530240 (I asked her if it was okay to post her number). HTH

Thanks for the info about Helping Hands but i just read the website and it's for the labour camps (to which I can now donate some of my husband's things!!). But I have children's toys that would suit a refugee camp or orphanage better and I read about a group collecting for refugee camps but can't find the contact anywhere!! Thanks anyways - appreciate the info.

The Polo & Equestrian club have a lot of activities for children and have a pamphlet in the lobby of the club. Also if they're into soccer - International Football Academy has soccer (football) practices daily at the Polo Club you could also look into that. There's a music school called Brooklyn Academy in Studio City that offers music lessons. Also Exhale Studio in Motor City has a list of children's classes and activities. Good luck!

I've used a guy named Omer for exactly the same reason - had to move a large plant that I bought off dubizzle. He charged me 150 - came on time with a proper truck and rope. His number is 050-281-8302 and also I read a reco before on this site of someone named Shah 050-276-6842 and it had mentioned he charged the same amount (i never used him I just saved the number for the future!). Good luck!

Hi: I've been taking both my kids (who have severe insulin resistance) to the American Hospital in Dubai and have had great experience with Dr. Hubert K. Penninckx, Specialist in Endocrinology + Diabetes(Belgium Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetes) and he was recommended to me by my previous. Not sure about growth hormones but definitely worth a consultation. website for American Hospital is ahdubai.com best of luck and book early - he usually has a few weeks wait.

I also hope this is hypothetical. If there is a travel ban and you try to leave the police will get involved and you will be stopped. When someone puts a travel ban on children, it is for fear of kidnapping or leaving without them knowing so if the child was found to be leaving from any border, the police would be notified and the child and whoever was with them would be held in custody. I would suggest you contact a lawyer who can look into this and really hope this is hypothetical.

Can anyone please help me ? I want to buy some plants/schrub to put in pots, I have a sunny garden all day which is very hot not sure plants will cope !! Bouganvilla survive very well with direct sunlight and very little water and only flower if they are not overwatered, so that would be a great option for your sunny garden. edited by fuddles on 06/06/2011

This might help - in the Maldives on the island we stayed - at they had an organic garden that they hung CD's from all the plants to detract the birds from eating them. Even the tomato plants had them hanging off the branches and they insisted the glare of the cd's annoyed the birds. I'm sure you could find cheap bank cd's in carefour or somewhere like that and could give it a try! Good luck!

I just saw Dr. William Murrell in Dubai Bone and Joint in Healthcare City. He is an orthopaedic surgeon (USA board certified) and is extremely professional and thorough. He does not push surgery (like several other doctors I've been to in Dubai) and takes his time to explain all the options. Worth going for a consultation. 04-423-1400

Just got 2 messages that Harvey Nichols (MOE) sale will still be on tomorrow and sale starts at S*uce (boutique in Dubai Mall and Jumeira). Also if there's a specific shop you're interested in - if you ask the salesperson alot of the time they will tell you when the 'pre-sale' is and you can put the things you like on hold. They normally do that for their "VIP" customers. Happy Shopping!

The One & Only PALM has beautiful villas on the beach with private infinity pools! It's not so far away but when you're there you feel like you're a million miles away! And for a special treat - book a stretch limo to pick you up from the house and drop you off there! It's got a nice/small kids club and you can always drop the kids off at the kids club at One & Only royal mirage for a few hours (it's just a boat trip away!) hope you have a great time wherever you go!

Omg I feel exactly the same! Just got off the phone with a friend who suggested: 1. weight lifting twice a week (one day upper body and one day lower body) which will speed up metabolism 2. writing down every single thing that i eat :( bc knowing i have to write it down might stop me from eating it! 3. no carbs after 4 pm 4. cardio classes (any kind) 4 x a week. good luck!

Thanks Sanddy-Dog! Just checked the Banyan Tree - that will be on the list! I gues ideal for a hard working couple and no kids, seems perfect to relax.... Definitely! We stayed at Banyan Tree Al Wadi - the BEACHFRONT property - not the one in the desert. It's gorgeous, super exclusive - only 30 private villas each with its own swimming pool and right on the beach. Very intimate and romantic. It's hidden away and you take a small speed boat from behind the Hamra Fort golf club to get to it. They can also organise for you to visit their sister property - Banyan tree al wadi - DESERT property - which has a luxurious spa. You can just call their reservations line and make sure to specify you are looking to stay at their beachfront property - the number is 07-2067777.

Hi. How about Ski Dubai for snowboarding or skiing? You can pay by day or take some lessons. I've also seen ads for things like learning how to do computer animation, making movies etc for young adults in knowledge village - if that's of any interest. Or if he has any hobbies - there are lots of classes - like music lessons (guitar/drum), cooking classes, language lessons, etc. HTH and good luck!

We went for high tea (3:30 - 6 pm) and it was amazing! It's around 290 dh per person for 3 course dessert/sandwich selection and the view is breathtaking. My parents came to visit from California and they loved it! It's so impressive, the service was outstanding and watching the sunset was breathtaking. I think it's totally worth it for an afternoon tea (and I'm sure much more reasonable than a meal). Hope you get to enjoy it!

I love Euzone at Royal Mirage ask for outdoor seating and also at the Beach Bar and Grill (you can ask for a private table on the beach). Another new place is their sister hotel - the One and Only Palm - their restaurant "101" is stunning with beautiful views of the ocean and skyline (make sure you book for an outdoor table).

An option could be to go down to Satwa - Azores are reliable and very reasonable - (opposite the big supermarket on plant street ) and have some covers made to your exact specs and you can choose the fabric. You could also take one chair with you and they can give you an estimate of cost on the spot so you don't have to waste too much time.
