I have never come across Bramley's, despite looking regularly. I use granny smith's as an alternative.

I was in NY with my DH, the third day of our honeymoon. We were staying at a hotel only a mile or so from the twin towers. We left the hotel to go buy tickets for one of the tour buses but the staff couldn't sell us tickets as they were aware that there had been an "incident" in the area we wanted to visit. Instead, we walked in the general direction of the towers and noticed a crowd of people outside a shop, looking at the tv in the window. The first tower had been hit and it appeared to be a terrible accident. Shocked, we went to a nearby restaurant for breakfast and the staff there told us that it was a terrorist attack. We were invited to watch the events on a back room tv and we stood there, with staff and other customers, and watched as the second tower was hit and both towers collapsed. It was an incredibly emotional experience and my heart went out to the New Yorkers who stood beside us in utter shock at what was happening in their city. We left the restaurant aware that the twin towers were not the only targets that day, fearing for our safety. We went back to our hotel and managed, after a few hours, to make contact with our family who were frantic with worry. We spent the rest of the day in the relative safety of Central Park, wandering aimlessly and listening to the endles sirens of the emergency services and the fighter jets overhead. The bridges, tunnels and subway closed and eventually the taxi drivers disappeared from the streets leaving the roads deserted. The city that never sleeps had ground to a complete standstill as the shocked workers left to go home to their families. We were lucky to go home four days later on one of the first flights to leave NY. Writing this now, ten years on, still gives me goosebumps. I don't have many good memories of my honeymoon but I do have a lovely photograph of the twin towers that I took from the empire state building only the day before

The most common brand (think it's Blue Dragon) is available in Spinneys but fantastic value is the 300g bag of panko bread crumbs which goes by the name of BREAD K & K CRUMBS....................a lot more for your money.

Love it! In my local gym there are numerous posters on the walls, many of which contain spelling/grammatical mistakes. I have a burning desire to correct these posters but know I'd get caught as there are cameras everywhere. In advertising I hate the deliberate use of the letter K instead of C.............Klean, Krispy, Kwik. I wish these things didn't bother me but I can't help it!!

Marks and Spencer. Be careful how you choose though as many of the pastry cases are broken.

Hi, there are so many apple pie recipes to choose from but I have used Mary Henry's 'proper apple pie' recipe (bbc website) on a number of occasions. I have never been able to find Bramley apples in Dubai so have used French granny smith's instead, still a decent result. Use 1kg apples and 55g caster sugar but don't stew the apples for too long as they're not as robust as Bramley's and will turn to mush if cooked for too long. Good luck!
