We (my friend and I) went to Beauty plus after seeing recommendations on here and it was a disaster. We booked a saturday appointment a couple of weeks in advance and confirmed the price at 700 after sending photographs of our hair via whatsap. On arrival at a random salon, through a side entrance above a series of shops in satwa, we were told only after one of us had our hair washed that our hair would be 2,000 based on the length and thickness and that it would take 3-4 hours per person, so we would be there for 6-8 hours plus the ladies lunch break. After some bullying by the lady that we had wasted her saturday and all her bookings by not agreeing to the price, she wouldnt negotiate and give us the previously agreed price listed on the website and via our messages, and so we left. We managed to get an appointment at the hair salon in Media one hotel who also use brazilian blow out products. it took 1.5 hours, charged us 1000 aed, much better service and environment, and both of us were able to have a drink afterwards and enjoy the rest of our afternoon For the experience I would definitely NOT use beauty plus satwa. PS I have done the treatment 1-2 times per year for the past 4 years and I love the results. I wouldnt go back to keratin. Previously I always went to maquee but their price has doubled over the past year hence looking elsewhere.

Contact the CIPD directly and ask to be put in touch with the Middle East rep (she is called rebecca but sorry I don't have her contact details to hand). She should be able to tell you all the accredited courses available and you can contact the providers to get the cost. Unfortunately you cannot do it distance learning as you need to physically attend to demonstrate the group work. If you use a uk provider you would have to fly back to fulfil this criteria, You also need to decide whether to do the certificate (CPP) or masters programme. Whether the below quote is decent will depend on which programme it is for. Rebecca was seconded to Dubai last year for 6months to learn about the market and so should be able to explain the options in detail for you. Good luck!

Have just checked - 2.5kg BUT thinking about it the recipe is quite specific to choose gala or golden delicious varieties.... I went for the first ones I saw (gala) and have checked, they are from the US - am guessing this is my downfall. Why do I need American apples!! Silly me. Lesson learnt. Thank you - at least I'm (hopefully) not going crazy!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info below. I've been to Geant Ibn battuta today and bought a Philips Avance 1869 for 699aed (although I did have to buy the display one, but they said there is most stock arriving over the weekend), got the free book too and have downloaded the three day detox app The fruit and veg is in the fridge ready to go! I also checked in the healthshop and they sell some of the supplements (unbranded) which are cheaper than on his website and easier for shipping. Even if i juice a few times a week I'll be pleased with myself Once again thanks all for the info and motivation

The beach at Jebel Ali is dog friendly - to the left handside of the hotel. If you search on here you should find the thread with directions, its where the kite surfers are. Otherwise its the desert or a daytrip to Rak with a picnic. Hatta pools are good for dogs too. I do know some people take their dogs to the beach early (pre 8am) regularly but that's a little ambitious for me! Otherwise until it cools down, pets paws planet in the green community has a free indoor dog park at the weekends. Hope this helps.

It's always in a brown box - even if you pay for packaging it's a pink stripy box within a big brown box! I have an Aramex shop n ship account which works out cheaper and the Aramex man delivers it to me directly so no issues of who it will end up with! You can find the detail on the Aramex shop & ship website

I've used churchill three times now and they have been great. They offer both wet and dry cleaning - dry is more expensive but they come and check out the sofa first to advise on the best option. To wet clean my 5 seater large corner sofa is 130aed Hope this helps Their number is 800 7076 and I got it through a previous recommendation on here

Yes! Fitness first at Al Manzil (next to the hotel). It has been taken over from Hayaa but so far you can still pay for single or blocks of classes. They have body pump several times a week and the timetable should be on the website (or at least it used to be). Think it's 40aed a session as a non member. Definitely worth checking out.

I used Safa veterinary centre a couple of weeks ago and it was 550aed although for a small dog (not sure if that makes it differ). We'd had consultations at a few, but i really liked them and they came recommended. Dissolvable stitches too so no going back to have them removed (although they asked me to nip back a couple of days after the op so they could check the wound) Hope this helps

Hmm..... Sorry ladies apron views is concrete. The grass is saved for the horses! Def a very glam event, you will never feel over dressed. High heels all the way for this one. Wifi and mercato both have hat/Fascinator stalls at the go, or try accessorize or M&S for a cheaper alternative Enjoy!

Both are lovely, but I'd agree the Hilton tops it for me. The Hilton is a further 20mins ish across RAK, but the restaurant and bar choices are more varied, the service is better and the pools are vast. The Hilton is also still fairly new and the rooms are spacious. That being said, the Cove is individual and if you don't mind the hills, the settling is beautiful. It's not a standard hotel set up which makes it feel like a real getaway. What lets it down though for me is the repeated poor quality service and the not great food. So both great choices Ps with youngish children definitely the Hilton due to the Cove hills!

Hi all Does anyone have an update on where to get on and whether they havd even been issued? My puppy has had all his jabs and everywhere I have tried is out of stock (I tried a random selection of vets in Al Barsha). The advise from the vets is its no risk as I can just use his passport if challenged, buut I'd like to take him to the dog show in a couple of weeks and dont want to get turned away.... Ahhhhh got to love Dubai systems, apparently they are issued late every year If anyone has experience and insight it would be most appreciated. He is 5 months now Many thanks

Last year we went to ski Dubai as it opened at 9am and played in the snow park. By the time family woke up in the UK, we had snowy Dubai Christmas pictures for them and it was lots of fun - not that busy either! Mall of The Emirates also had carol concerts in their Dutac theatre in December, and we did the panto at Madinat on Christmas eve followed by the Christmas markets. There's def plenty of christmas activities here! plus M&S Sell mince pies!!

I went today for bikini and underarm and have to agree it was a pleasant experience - far superior to the other places I have tried in Dubai (Rebecca Treson and Wow Salon Dubai Mall). Cost wise without a voucher it is about the same. I was well briefed, informed to buy some Elma numbing cream from the chemist before hand as it was my first session with them... both the Dr and her assistant were very knowledgable and took their time. After care wise they gave me a small jar of fucicort just in case it was red afterwards but there's been no need. Will have to wait and see re. the results ;) However I felt more than comfortable and would be happy to go back! Directions-wise its past Saga on the beach side of the road if you are travelling up from Burj Al Arab. Nr the big bank and burger fuel. edited by Pipindubai on 02/10/2011 edited by Pipindubai on 02/10/2011

We did the 200aed glass of champagne and unlimited oysters on Friday. Fabulous experience, however they did run out of oysters.... but they were very good about it and gave us one person for free. Just make sure whether in the restaurant or the lounge you get a table by the window, otherwise you could be anywhere!

Okay so I went to the Dubai Mall Medical centre and saw my regular GP... No malaria meds needed for my upcomiing weekend trip to Delhi or Eid trip to Goa. Just need to ensure Hep A and dyptheria vaccines are up to date (which thankfully they are) Bit of a waste of 70aed for the consultation but at least I'm now sure! Word of warning - the Indian visa place has now moved from the Karama post office to somewhere in Bur Dubai - we got a taxi straight there and was (reasonably) painfree. We got the address by calling the post office thankfully before we set off and decided to taxi-it otherwise we wouldn't have found it. The process took an hour max if you've downloaded the form, filled it in and have 2 passport pics ready. Then 1 day processing, 2 days to be delivered. I got a multiple entry visa so don't have to go through that drama twice!

Hi Am travelling to Delhi next week and after researching on here I see it's advised to take Malaria Meds - especially as it is monsoon/ insect bitey season. I doubt it will be covered on the insurance as this is a pleasure trip so where's the easiest and cheapest place to pick them up from?! On here it suggests taking Matarone, Doxycycline or Lariam - but where should I get them from and which one (I know some of them are a 'mare to take and the risk might be better than the side effects!) Any help and advice is much appreciated. Given it's only a long weekend to Delhi and Agra I don't want to get it wrong... Thanks!! edited by Pipindubai on 09/08/2011

I've had a Mirena coil for just over 18months - almost straight away my periods stopped and I haven't had one since. Such an fantastic thing living in the sun and I have saved a fortune on tampons. It was a little ouch getting it fitted but it has much lower levels of hormones than the pill I was on which is why I originally changed. Plus if you are unhappy, you can have it taken out really quickly. I had it done in the uk so cannot comment on Dubai services, but I would definitely recommend as an alternative to the pill

The sports store in Souk Al Bahar, near the Palace Hotel/ Shakesphere's cafe entrance certainly has Reef flipflops... not sure about shoes but it seems the sort of place to sell sports shoes. Worth a try
