I had booked 2 flights with them and 2 weeks before I was due to fly they cancelled the flight. They refused to give me my cash back and would only give me a voucher which I told them that and I wasn't going to use. I will never book a flight with them again.

She might be okay with Emirates because my maid flew with them last year and her suitcase was so heavy that it took the two of us to lift into the car. I told her to prepare to buy another suitcase at the airport because I didn't think Emirates would allow all that weight for one suitcase. anyway she had no problems, so maybe Emirates does give them extra allowance or they turn a blind eye. Which is good of them if they do.

Also, I forgot to add if you don't have the NOC no objection certificate, your developer should be able to print it out for you while you are there and they also should be able to give you the BCC building completions certificate as the developer are the ones who issue it once the villa has been built and they have handed over to municipality. Unfortunately for me, I'm still awaiting the BCC from the developer even though my villa was completed 8 years ago as the developer are in dispute with municipality.

Firstly, you will need to get the following from your developer, in my case it was emaar. 1. The NOC, no objection certificate for any work that has been done inside and outside your villa. 2. The BCC, the Building completion certificate 3. Detailed 3d drawings of the work that has been done - thus MUST be in 3d Initially the developer would have a copy but as my developer is emaar they threw all the drawings out and kept only the NOC. If you do not have any of the above, you must go to the municipality building which is across from the lulu/karama centre in karama and get a ticket to see building alterations dept. you must have your title deeds and the muncipality ticket which you would have been given by your municipality visitors which is a violation fine ticket. Tell your story to the man at the municipality office as you will be issued with another violation in 1 months time, and on the next months after that another violation ticket which you will gave to pay. If you tell them that you are doing your best to sort this out they will help you and if you pay a deposit for the fine they will give you more than the 3 months to sort it out. If you don't have someone to do the 3d drawings, they have a list of companies on their website as it will need to be someone who are used to dealing with municipality requirements because if it is the slightest bit wrong they will ask you to redo it and there will be another submission charge which I think is about 2000 aed but don't quote me on that because I cant remember. If you already have all of the 3 things listed above then just take them to the municipality and they will tell you the next step. Good luck and don't worry too much as the guys at the municipality office are quite friendly and helpful.

Dragonmart have loads of all types of wigs. You can find them in the large shop at the dragons head end, sorry don't know the name of it but the shop sells makeup, clothes, beads for jewellery making and shoes and is laid out open plan style like a debenhams store.

I used them in June last year, I guess they must have closed down. Dubai glass can do the splash backs, I actually called them first but after a month of calling them and them never turning up I went to Pyramid. You might be lucky and they actually turn up for you but I got the impression that they only like to do large contracts but they never said they wouldn't do the work they just never turned up. Here is their website, http://dubai-glass.com Good luck.

For glass splash back call shaadab ahmad from pyramid glass 0506283038 they will do whatever colour you want and it will be with the proper paint which is designed for back painting glass. For countertop, I used silestone which is an engineered stone, not the cheapest product but it is the most durable and they do it in all different finishes. See www.silestone.com for more info. The contact there is Ali maarrawi 055 6252907 These 2 companies did my kitchen last year and I found them to be very professional and will work with you to make sure that you are happy. Angela

I used to go to Medical Village on Beach Road 04 346 9999, not cheap but reasonable prices & they often have offers on if you ask them. They also have about 4-5 different types of lasers depending on your skin type. I haven't been for a couple of years as I've had little regrowth so for me it definitely worked. The doctor usually does the initial appointment and will recommend what laser will work best for you.

Speak to Ravish at Pyramid Glass 050 6287288 they did my kitchen glass splashbacks for me and spent a lot of time getting it right for me. They are a proper glassworks company and they knew that the glass behind the cooker needed to be tempered and they also used the special glass paint - you need to check that however you use is doing this because some companies just use normal spray paint which will cause problems later on.

My husband has the mouth brace thing for exactly the same problem as your husband and he also previously used to grind his teeth. He finds it worked really well as the doctor gradually moved the brace out so that he would it would move his jaw out further each time to stop the bit at the back of his throat blocking the air passage. She had to adjust it every week gradually or it could have caused even worse consequences for his health. He did say it took about a week to get used to it but now he doesn't mind it at all.

I definitely wouldn't recommend the American Hospital Sleep Clinic as it was a complete joke and an expensive one at that. My husband ended up going to see a doctor at the German Dental Clinic I think she is canadian, she specialises in Apnea. After giving him this sleep machine which does all sort of monitoring she made her diagnosis and made him this mouthguard thing which get's re adjusted every so often. Now he is a lot better. Here is the link for the clinic which is in JLT - good luck. http://www.germandent.com/

I can only really recommend an Interior Designer. Her name is Toni Ramsay and she has been working on my house for the past 3 months. You will find her very easy to work with, she listens to you and is a very good communicator. She also has an excellent eye for colours & detail, and more importantly she will work within your budget. Honestly, she has worked miracles with my eclectic mix of furniture and has managed to turn my house into a totally different look. To be honest I was very wary about employing the help of an Interior Designer because I was worried that I would end up with a house that didn't feel like mine. Thankfully because the way that Toni works that didn't happen. If you do decide to contact her, I very much doubt you will be disappointed. Her email address is toniramsay @ btinternet.com

Last year my sister in law booked an Emirates flight from LDN - DXB - Muscat then she was flying back from DXB - to LDN. We were originally going to meet her in Muscat as we were supposed to be there when she arrived. Things had changed & we were going to be driving to Oman a bit later than intended which meant that she could get leave Dubai airport and just come in the car to Muscat with us so we would all arrive together. She checked with Emirates if this was okay and they said no she would have to take the Muscat flight from Dubai because if she decided to just to go ahead then they would not allow her to board the plane in Dubai for her return journey - it would flag a warning on their system that she hadn't completed her journey. The reason for this was because her flight is cheaper from LDN to Muscat via DXB than it was from LDN to DXB. So she could do it but ONLY if she paid the higher price of the airfare from UK-DXB.

Thanks SG, We did find it strange that they asked us to do this but they told us it was standard practice when you get a mortgage in Dubai. Maybe, it's because we are self employed that they are doing this. I suppose in the end we will just have to accept it and see how it goes with them. I know in the UK if you default then the bank can repossess your house but you don't usually have to sign a POA for them to do this as it is usually written into the contract. Thanks for the information though as it means we will be going into this with our eyes open.

Has anyone who has a mortgage ever had to sign a power of attorney that enables the bank to sell your property if you default? Just wondered if this was standard practice as Tamweel are telling us that it is. Thanks.

I just don't understand the prices the OP quoted. They are just over GBP400 some 500 on EK from Sept. I was told that the powers that be brag about the prices of Emirates. They know they are expensive however people still choose to fly with them I have heard something similar too. That they will keep on putting the prices up until people start voting with their feet.

Thanks everyone for the info! DH and I are wondering about our UK house insurance ... I hope someone can confirm that this doesn't apply to house insurance too :\: If you reside less than 3 months a year in your UK home then you are not covered unless your insurance says otherwise. I found this out when buying a home in the UK and trying to get building and home insurance.. You can get insurance but it is more expensive. You can get the rates down if you install a cctv camera and you have a security firm checking the footage and responding to any burglary alarms going off by either checking themselves or the police doing it. If you have people living in the house then you have a different type of insurance anyway to cover tenants. I would check what type of insurance you have.

I stayed for one night at the 4* Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya and was quite impressed with it in comparison to the overpriced boutique hotel that I stayed in the week previous. The hotel Torre was very cheap in comparison & more of a business hotel. The location was about 5 mins walk from the train station, subway and a tour bus stop which was handy & cheap to get to the airport to, It was another 5 mins walk to the bullring shopping centre which had some nice restaurants ontop. You can take the metro to the city centre which is about 10mins ride away. You can also walk to Monjuic which is about 10 mins to walk. Here is the hotel url:- http://www.torrecatalunya.com/en/index.jsp Go to the Paula Musica to see a show - Book this in advance via the internet as it is very popular - you can pickup the tickets at the box office. http://www.palaumusica.org/ There is lots to do in Barcelona, you won't get bored.

Chocs mentioned in her OP that she said something to the woman prior to all this ruckus about belting her child in. No good deed as they say, and the woman probably saw it is an attack on her parenting on went left, determined to catch Chocs in a bad moment. I agree with Beebers, it looks pretty obvious to me that this is what started it. Especially when they had only said good things about them before to their landlord.

I thought penguins spend half their time on land and the other half in the sea. So do these penguins spend anytime in the water? if not, then they cannot truly be interested in their welfare and are just using them as a cheap amusement/gimmick for the mall. It really makes me despair at how people/organizations can get away with exploiting gods creatures just because they can.

Sorry to hear that, Gladys. When I'm singing the praises of S&S on here in future, I'll try to remember to say that I think it's only worth using for quite light packages and that you need to contact S&S to find out delivery costs for larger items. Also, aren't items over a certain value liable for Customs Duty as well as delivery fees? It's my own fault as I should have found out exactly what the item had weighed in the first place instead of guessing. It hasn't put me off s&s... although it has made me think twice about ordering heavier items in the future. Which in all honesty must be a good thing. Yes I will be liable for customs duty as well but that wasn't a surprise as I had budgeted for that. I just hope that the s&s man arrives with my parcel when my husband is out because if he finds out how much I am paying in shipping charges I will never hear the end of it!

I wouldn't want to use Shop and Ship for anything particularly heavy as the delivery costs on your doorstep would probably land up being more than the item itself.. Don't I just know it - never again. It has cost me more in shipping costs than it would have if I had flown out to the US & picked it up myself.

You can get the fabric from Azoures in Plant Street, Satwa. Choose the colour and you can take one of the men to your boat and they will measure it up and then make it up for you. With Azoures you do have to stamp your feet a bit as they often don't deliver when they say they are going to but the price & the quality is good. Another alternative is Feshwari, they do a good job as well but are expensive.

What, like how Atlantis was all controlled and scientific with Sammy? ... Anyhow, yes, it would be lovely to have penguins running around, but unfortunately - judging by how some of the public likes to goad the animals into "doing something" by throwing stones, poking them or shouting at them - the problem will be the public, not the penguins. Basic respect for animal welfare is simply not in the culture of a large proportion of the UAE's residents... I agree with the above. I still refuse to go to Atlantis because of Sammy and it looks like Ski Dubai will now also be on my boycott list along with Dubai Zoo and the dolphin place. I will be telling all my visitors this year (all 30 of them) the reasons why I will not be taking them to ski dubai.

I had a very bad experience with them. Just chose to keep quiet but I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. I too was very disappointed by my experience with them. They damaged an antique piece of furniture and they were supposed to woodstain a table. The table was the biggest disaster as they varnished glossed it rather than just oil staining it as I requested plus it was very badly done as it had rough patches and lots of bubbles in it. It looks so bad that I wish that I had left well alone. They are not cheap either which is why I thought that I would have got a decent job for such a basic request. If I could have sourced the materials myself then I would have done it myself and it would have been done too a much higher standard. But in a positive note I do find Mr Aslam to be a very nice chap.

Isn't it the case that if you want to buy a property in Thailand that you have to set up a company to do so? And that there are only certain developments upon which you can do this? Yes, I believe this is so. You are allowed to buy a villa in a hotel development as the hotel development owns the land. Or outwith this you can own an apartment. But with other villas out with these resorts you can only buy through a thai company and they will own 51% of the property which you can only own 49% because as a foreigner you are not allowed to own land. This may have since changed but it was certainly the case 3 years ago.
