Meet Linda Dekkers, she learnt how to push her boundaries which inspired her to follow her true passions.
I’m/ We’re living in:
Together with my husband and 2 boys, I live in Dubai.
A bit about me:
I am a stylist, blogger and founder of Live Loud Girl. The concept Live Loud Girl started with just a notebook and a name. My first blog post was at the beginning of 2014 when I started to share my interior inspiration. And that somehow evolved into interior styling where I can make my ideas become reality. And now my passion is my full time job.
How long have you lived there?
We moved to Dubai in September 2013.
Why did you move?
We moved for my husbands job. Before Dubai it was New York City. Moving around the globe pushed my boundaries and gave me inspiration to develop, connect and create. It gave me the courage to follow my heart.
What’s the accommodation options where you live?
Dubai is a big city and therefore there are many types of accommodations. We live in the Meadows. A compound very close to the Marina. It’s a very nice place to live with children although I could also see myself living in a different area also. I am not glued to a house or area.
What are the summer months (Jun-Aug) like in your part of the world?
Hot!
Most families will go on long holidays to cooler parts of the world. But Dubai does cater for the hot summers with indoor playgrounds, splash parks and even cinema’s that show movies at 9 in the morning for those who can handle it.
Is summer (Jun-Aug) the best time of year to visit?
Let me be short; No.
If you are thinking of moving to Dubai, please come during the six months of lovely weather starting in the month of November. During those months it is fantastic weather with temperatures between 20-30 degrees.
What do you enjoy doing with your time in the summer?
In the summer months, when the kids are on school holiday, we will be back home for a few weeks. Not only is it too hot in Dubai, we use this as an excuse to see family and friends and enjoy some occasional cloudy skies and rainy days.
What’s the highest temperature it can reach in your summer time (Jun-Aug)
48-ish… as said before: Hot!
What do you love the most about this time of year?
My boys are swimmers so the afternoons are all about going to the pool or the beach. UV suits are worn here on a daily basis.
What do you like the least about this time of year?
The air conditioning has to be on all night… I rather have the window open for some fresh air.
What do you wish you’d known before you moved?
In Dubai, you are likely to spend many hours in the car. You can easily drive 30 minutes one way and 20 the other way since it is all Dubai. I like to walk or bike which I hardly do now. So be sure you have a car!
Anything else you’d like to share with us about your expat experience?
Living abroad to me is a great experience. Every place has it’s pro’s and cons. But the pro’s still win for me.
